00:00China does not have absolute control of the West Philippine Sea or the country's exclusive
00:05economic zones. A confident and reassuring statement from the Philippine Navy as it prepares
00:10to deploy the next patrol and guardian vessel to Escoda Shoal after a much-needed
00:16respite and recharge of the BRP Teresa Magbanwa and its gallant crew.
00:21Our Patrick De Jesus fills us in with more.
00:24The troops stationed at BRP Sierra Madre in Ayungin or Second Thomas Shoal have adequate
00:33provisions. According to the AFP, the last rotation and reprovision or remission to BRP
00:39Sierra Madre was on July 27, which was successful following the bilateral consultation meeting
00:47between the Philippines and China. Although no further details were given as part of operational
00:53security, the AFP stated, the next row remission is already in the midst of preparations.
01:23Recently, the BRP Teresa Magbanwa returned from a five-month deployment to Sabina or Escoda Shoal.
01:36One reason was the lack of supplies,
01:44where the crew of Magbanwa collected rainwater to drink.
01:53It reached a point where the crew had to collect water
01:57from the air conditioning unit of the ship as their desalinator machine failed.
02:06For almost a month, the crew of the PCG also subsisted on porridge. Despite the departure
02:13of the BRP Teresa Magbanwa, the Philippine Navy assured the country has sufficient assets
02:19deployed throughout the West Philippine Sea. It was also emphasized that China does not control
02:26Escoda Shoal as the Philippines can still conduct patrols, including in other features of the WPS.
02:50No additional piles of crushed corals were monitored in Escoda Shoal during the five-month
03:02deployment of the BRP Teresa Magbanwa, but it remains under surveillance.
03:19Meanwhile, the number of Chinese ships in the West Philippine Sea has gone down from 207 on
03:38September 3 to 9 to 157 based on a week-long monitoring of the AFP. According to the Navy,
03:46the most likely reason for this drop is bad weather.
