One new mpox case detected, says Health Ministry

A new monkeypox (mpox) case has been detected, said the Health Ministry on Tuesday (Sept 17). The patient began showing symptoms of fever, sore throat and cough on Sept 11 and rashes appeared on Sept 12.

00:05The ministry said the patient began showing symptoms of fever, sore throat and cough on
00:10September 11 and rashes appeared on September 12.
00:14It said the patient was confirmed positive for mpox clade 2 on Monday.
00:19It said the patient had no history of travelling overseas within 21 days before the onset of
00:25symptoms.
00:26The patient is currently in isolation and in a stable condition while the patient's
00:30contacts are being identified and their health status will be monitored.
00:35The ministry said out of the 58 suspected mpox cases referred to them this year, one
00:40case had been confirmed positive.
00:43They said all 10 cases in Malaysia from July 26 last year to present day are only mpox
00:49clade 2 cases.
00:51Last month, the ministry said Malaysia has recorded nine mpox cases to date since the
00:56first case was detected in July last year.
01:00They said all the cases reported had a history of high-risk activities and had recovered
01:04with no deaths reported.
01:07Mpox was declared as a public health emergency of international concern for a second time
01:11last month following the swift transmission of the clade 1b variant from the Democratic
01:17Republic of Congo and neighbouring countries.
