00:05a great place to meet up with some of your favorite bands and my favorite

00:09bands actually catch up on all their latest news and if you're a regular

00:12viewer of the ball then you know that Danzig are well up there in my top 10

00:17bands so I'm very pleased to say hello to John from Danzig he's joining me here

00:21in Los Angeles John welcome to Headbangers Ball is this your first

00:25time at the convention this is actually my first time inside what's your

00:29impression so far I'm having a great time it's very intense lots of good

00:33music and I've met more MTV and radio people and industry people than I've

00:38ever seen in one place in my life it's crazy and you've actually been involved

00:42on one of the panels as well so far one panel I was on a press panel today and

00:47tomorrow I'll be on an artist panel and I'll see you there great well there's a

00:52lot to talk about hair it's blue it's lovely there's a lot to talk about with

00:57Danzig because of course you've had a massive hit in the States with mother a

01:00song that was written back in 1988 it was a great song nearly seven years ago

01:06why is it suddenly being accepted seven years later well music has changed you

01:11know we were we were one of the first that came out with a sort of

01:16alternative type of hard rock sound it wasn't metal it wasn't necessarily

01:20alternative it was hard to put a label on it it was very stripped down and of

01:26course our hardcore fans like the song way back when in 93 we had the big tour

01:32going in the big show at Irvine Meadows on Halloween the big extravaganza with

01:36white zombie and our record company and Glenn decided to remix a song and put it

01:41out and they really got behind it you know the company had been growing

01:45American Recordings now used to be Deaf American and they've been growing and

01:49developing now they were in a position to really put some effort and creativity

01:53behind it and have to give them a lot of credit because they push it over the

01:57top and I mean as you said it was a live version that actually brought the song

02:01out to the floor and I think that's really really added to it as well

02:04because you have that all the audience singing along and it it's just added so

02:07much atmosphere hasn't it it's great on the Metallica tour you know I go up

02:12there on stage and I know the songs coming and every city is a little bit

02:15different but when I play those first three chords the place just comes alive

02:19it goes crazy energy level just hits the roof and I get chills up my spine I'm

02:23getting chills right now just thinking about it and then they sing along to the

02:26whole song Glenn half the time puts the microphone out lets them sing the chorus

02:30and then we have them for the rest of the night they're ours and it's it's

02:34been a long time in coming but it's it's been worth every minute good now as you

02:38said you have done Metallica shows were you I'm actually playing new songs

02:42because I know your new albums finished we we only played the first track on the

02:47record and occasionally we played going down to die but just really gave me a

02:52taste of one or two songs here and there just to test it out and see how it

02:56went can you give us a little insight into the new material you got an album

02:59title any surprises a lot of surprises the title is going to be well standard

03:05title dancing for a lot of surprises on the record you know you have to listen

03:10to your whole CD that's all tell you listen to your whole CD a lot of

03:16different vocal sounds coming at you and some different production effects that

03:20we haven't used before almost reminiscent of the band before Danzig

03:25Sam Haynes some older type of sounds with new drums new drum sound and the

03:31vocals you hear Glenn sing in a way you probably never heard him sing before

03:34well I'm looking forward to that I mean do you have a release date or any

03:38touring plans for Europe we have a release date is October 4th Europe we're

03:43still trying to schedule those shows but it's looking like it's going to be a

03:46summer festival type of tour next year I think we're just gonna do a little

03:51warm-up five or six week tour here before Christmas and then pick it up in

03:54January there you go the latest news on Danzig thanks John nice talking to you

04:00thank you and with your permission we're going to show actually a slightly

04:04different version of the Danzig mother song because this version was actually

04:09recorded by MTV I'm not did you do it in studios in New York or where did you do

04:13that what's the original mother no the actual video we're going to see the MTV

04:18version of the video song which song mother well that the live one was out

04:25here it was actually filmed in Irvine California and also in England at the

04:30Country Club in London and some of it was in Scotland and Wales as well we had

04:35a film crew for that tour in 93 so it's a you know it's a combination of all

04:40these different shows the big live shots are obviously the big concert hall

04:43so you'll see our clothes change and everything else okay well actually I'm

04:48not making myself clear here we have got a version MTV made for you that's the

04:52one I'm talking about and that's the one we're going to show because we saw the

04:54other one last week as we play so many Danzig videos you see so we're going to

04:58show this one this is mother 94 version Danzig watch out for a new album in

05:03October
