00:06Glen, I was interested to know, was that just another manifestation of wanting some sort of total control over what you were doing

00:17or were you just interested in the exercise of getting behind the camera and directing the video?

00:23Towards the end of the first album I had to come in and start co-directing the videos anyway.

00:29A situation happened where Rick had a fight with the director and the video was just left half completed

00:38and I had to come in and co-direct it with the director of photography.

00:42And then starting on the second record I just started co-directing some of the videos.

00:48Of course we used Anton Corbine and a few other people but eventually I just said I just want to direct it myself.

00:55I don't want to co-direct with somebody else and it's just like half my vision or something.

01:00So this one worked out much better and all the money went up on the screen.

01:06It didn't go in someone's pocket or something so it worked out really well.

01:10So how did it work actually being in front of the camera and trying to instruct people what you wanted?

01:17It was more focused, less bullshit that you have to deal with on the set

01:23because there's one idea there and you know exactly what you want.

01:27So when I just have to be in frame I just walk into it.

01:32I know how the camera's set up, I know how everything's got to be so it's actually a lot easier.

01:38Sometimes you get a director and he just puts you in front of the camera

01:41and he doesn't tell you what to do or what is going on.

01:45He just says just stand there and sing or move your arms or something.

01:48What do you mean move my arms?

01:51Sometimes it's much easier doing it yourself because then I can also tell the guys in the band the same thing.

01:57In this scene I want you to do this and I want you to do that.

02:00To me that's what a director should do.

02:02That's the way we approach doing the videos like little films not like these little disposable rock videos.

02:10So I think in that aspect it was a lot easier.

02:14It worked very well as we saw just then.

02:17I think it's true to say that there's not very much levity in your music or lyrics.

02:23What do you do in your spare time to enjoy yourself or relax?

02:27Well there is some sarcasm in it.

02:30But what do I do? I don't know.

02:36I just watch TV, work out, do martial arts, read comics, read books.

02:43I don't really go out that much to clubs.

02:46Occasionally if friends are in town or something I'll do that.

02:50I don't really drink a lot.

02:53Really hardly at all.

02:55In case a friend is in town that's about it because usually if I drink I get in a lot of trouble.

03:00So your private persona isn't very much different from the public persona we're seeing here?

03:06I hear a lot about this persona and this and that.

03:10It's just basically us when we're on stage.

03:12What you see is what you get.

03:14We don't take these clothes off and then put on a suit and tie or something or wear yuppie clothes.

03:22This is us. This is it.

03:24And exactly the way I'm on stage is exactly the way I am on the street.

03:31With Eerie I think he's probably more of a wise guy off stage than on stage.

03:38When you go on stage is that kind of like a ritual to you in the actual live performance?

03:45You don't communicate with the audience very much but is it a very focused thing?

03:52I think they know what's going on.

03:54I think they need more people telling them about this or that or telling them what to do.

04:00Occasionally if I want to introduce a song or if I want to talk to them I will.

04:06I think the music speaks for itself.

04:08I would hate to be a band where in every city every night in between the same song they say the same thing.

04:18Are you ready to rock?

04:20Or whatever they say but it's always in the same spot.

04:24It really annoys me.

04:25Especially when you're on tour with them and you go in before them and they do it and they do it every night.

04:31Or if it's a friend's band and they're in a certain town and you go and see them a few places and it's the same thing.

04:37I would just stop doing music before I do that.

04:41It's just whatever happens happens.

04:44Could you ever write a love song?

04:47I have.

04:50A lot of them.

04:52But maybe not in a traditional sense.

04:55Maybe from a slightly more sinister...

04:57What is a love song?

04:59Exactly.

05:00What's love?

05:02I think there's a lot of them in the Danzig song list.

05:08Blood and Tears is one.

05:11So is Sistinas and a few others.

05:13Yes, that's off the new album.

05:15When you write are you looking...

05:17Do you wear the mark? It could be a love song too.

05:20When you write are you looking inwards or looking outwards?

05:24Everywhere.

05:29Why do you feel such an affinity towards male vocalists?

05:33I mean really classic male vocalists like Roy Orbison and Elvis.

05:37Because they could sing.

05:40Is that how you'd like to be remembered? As a classic male vocalist?

05:44That wouldn't be bad.

05:47It's kind of a drag always being compared to dead people.

05:51But I guess there's nobody else alive that does that.

05:56I'm starting to get used to it.

05:58I guess people who have limited imaginations like a lot of the journalists,

06:03that's all they can say is,

06:04Oh, it sounds like this or it sounds like that.

06:07When in fact it probably doesn't so much as it just maybe reminds them of it

06:12or they have nothing else to draw from.

06:15When comparing you I don't know why they have to compare you to somebody

06:18but it just shows a limited intelligence.

06:21So that's what they do.
