00:00I don't need to remind anyone in this room as to why this leadership contest is taking place.

00:05And many column inches have been devoted to how we fell to such a historic defeat.

00:10I have heard loud and clear what the British people have had to say.

00:14And while we will reflect and learn on the lessons,

00:18under my leadership, our party will be firmly focused on the future.

00:23So today, eight weeks on, our attitude will change.

00:27And we will draw a line in the sand because it's time to move on and move forward.

00:33I'm an optimist with clear goals.

00:35And I will revive our party so that we can provide the leadership that our great country needs.

00:40Earlier this week, we had the spectacle of a Labour Prime Minister

00:44standing in the Rose Garden of Downing Street,

00:47delivering one of the most feeble, pitiful and dishonest speeches you will ever hear.

00:52He was feeble in his claim to say that he was tough with the trade unions in pay negotiations.

00:57That was after he immediately rolled over to appease his paymasters,

01:02at the expense of the British taxpayer.

01:04In me, you have a leader who understands the challenges of our country.

01:08And I will guide you through them.

01:11I will never promise you what I can't deliver.

01:14And I will never tell you what I think you may want to hear,

01:16because it sounds easy or simple to deliver.

01:20What I will offer you are credible and compelling plans for the future of our country.

01:24One which is anchored by our shared Conservative and British values.
