So the public servants do one job and we've been offered the same pay deal as the public
00:05
servants and we don't do a public servant's job. So we get injured at work, we get psychologically
00:11
injured at work, we work full shift work which takes years off our lives. This is very different
00:17
to a public service job and we need to be paid fairly for it. When I wasn't in the job for very
00:23
long I felt more valued then. I think now we're treated as a resource but not as people.
00:28
We've had members walking out of the Edmund Barton building, the Winchester Police Centre
00:32
and the Majura Police Complex here in Canberra today in an effort to improve the current
00:39
bargaining position that the federal government and the AFP has put us under. Currently they are
00:45
the lowest paid, base paid police officers in the country. They do a lot of excellent work,
00:50
they do a lot of work behind the scenes that the community and even the government don't know what
00:55
they do but their one aim is to keep Australia and Australians safe.
