After five months of negotiations, the Public Service Commission has tabled a pay offer
00:04
of 11.2% over three years for federal public servants.
00:08
That offer is the result of the first APS-wide round of bargaining since the late 1990s.
00:14
Since that time, agencies have been doing negotiations on their own and it means that
00:17
some have fallen behind others on conditions and pay.
00:21
So the APS-wide talks have focused on conditions like parental leave and flexible working arrangements,
00:27
but right now all eyes are on pay.
00:29
So that 11.2% offer is being put to union members, the main public sector union being
00:34
the Community and Public Sector Union.
00:37
Right now they're considering whether they'll take on board the offer or knock it back,
00:41
and by September 28 we'll know what the results of that poll are.
00:45
If the union decides to knock it back, they could take industrial action, which could
00:49
potentially delay a deal on pay and common conditions.
