00:53Ruta's statement as reported by the news network reads, Ryan Evans, a member of the
00:59Ruta's team covering the war in Ukraine, was killed and two Ruta's journalists were injured
01:05in a strike on a hotel in the eastern Ukrainian city of Kramatorsk.
01:09Evans, who was working as a safety advisor for the agency, was killed after a missile
01:16struck the hotel, Sapphire, where he was staying as part of a six-person team on Saturday.
01:23Two of the agency's journalists were being treated in hospital, one of them was seriously
01:28injured.
01:29We are urgently seeking more information about the attack, including by working with the
01:35authorities in Kramatorsk, and we are supporting our colleagues and their families, Ruta's
01:41said.
01:42Evans, a former British soldier, had been working with Ruta's since 2022 and advised
01:49its journalists on safety around the world including in Ukraine, Israel and at the Paris
01:55Olympics.
01:56He was 38.
01:58We send our deepest condolences and thoughts to Ryan's family and loved ones.
02:04Ryan has helped so many of our journalists cover events around the world.
02:09We will miss him terribly, Ruta's said.
02:12The three other members of the Ruta's team who were in the hotel at the time of the strike
02:17were accounted for and safe, the agency said.
02:20President Volodymyr Zelensky said the hotel was hit by a Russian Iskander missile, a ballistic
02:27missile that can strike at distances up to 500 kilometers, 310 miles.
02:33The Russian Defense Ministry did not respond to a request for comment.
02:38Ruta's was not able to independently verify if the missile that hit the hotel was fired
02:43by Russia or if it was a deliberate strike on that building, the news agency reported
02:48on Sunday.
02:49Adding, the Donetsk Province's Regional Prosecutor's Office said in a telegram post earlier that
02:56the body of a British citizen had been found in the rubble of a hotel building in Kramatorsk.
03:02The hotel was destroyed at 10.35 p.m. local time, 19.35 GMT, on Saturday, probably with
03:12an Iskander-M missile, it said.
03:15The prosecutor's office has opened a pre-trial investigation into the strike, it said.
03:21Zelensky in a statement of video broadcast posted on ex-social media, said.
03:28Today in Kramatorsk, the entire day was spent clearing the rubble after a Russian missile
03:33strike.
03:34Among the injured were journalists, a Ruta's film crew, citizens of Ukraine, America, and
03:42Britain.
03:43A regular city hotel was destroyed by a Russian Iskander missile.
03:49Deliberately calculated, seven people were injured, and one person lost their life.
03:55My deepest condolences to the families and loved ones.
03:59This is the daily Russian terror that continues because Russia still has the means to continue.
04:05Today, too, Russian strikes targeted our Sumy region with KAB bombs, as well as on Kharkiv,
04:14Khasin, and Donetsk regions.
04:17For all of this, the world must not stop exerting pressure on the terrorist state.
04:23For missile strikes, for KAB bombs, for assaults, in general, for this entire war, Russia must
04:32be forced to seek peace.
04:34Today, I want to especially acknowledge our forces who are already holding Russia accountable,
04:42with the forces we have and the ones we are constantly strengthening.
04:46Every unit of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Main Intelligence Directorate, and the
04:51Security Service of Ukraine working on our long-range capabilities.
04:57Everyone repelling Russian assaults on the frontline, especially now in the Donetsk region.
05:03Everyone engaged in the defensive operation in Kielsk region.
05:07I thank all our warriors.
05:09Also, my deepest gratitude to all the manufacturers of our Ukrainian weapons, suppliers of all
05:16the essential components, and the developers, each one of you who tirelessly works for Ukraine.
05:23We have already showcased Palaianitsia, our new rocket drone.
05:27More of developments and more of our weapons will follow, while Palaianitsias and Neptunes
05:35can achieve many objectives, there are tasks that only ATACMS, Storm Shadow, Scalp, and
05:43other weapons from our partners can fulfill.
05:47Previous day, Zelensky said, in the two and a half years of full-scale war, Russia has
05:53launched about 10,000 missiles of various types and more than 33,000 glide bombs at Ukraine.
06:00Stopping attacks on our cities can be achieved by targeting the carriers of those weaponry,
06:05Russian aircraft stationer at military airfields.
06:09Yesterday, the first successful combat use of our new weapon, the Ukrainian long-range
06:15rocket drone, Palaianitsia, took place.
06:19It was designed domestically to destroy the enemy's offensive potential.
06:24The number of rocket drones production will grow just like our long-range strike drones
06:29production did, whose efficiency we see almost daily.
06:33On Independence Day, President Zelensky said, another 115 of our defenders have returned
06:40home today.
06:42These are warriors of the National Guard, the Armed Forces, the Navy, and the State
06:47Border Guard Service.
06:50We remember everyone, we are searching for them and making every effort to bring them
06:55all back.
06:56I am grateful to each unit that replenishes our exchange fund.
07:01This helps to advance the release of our military personnel and civilians from Russian
07:05captivity.
07:07I thank our team and partners, the UAE, for bringing our people back home.
07:13Today, we celebrate the 33rd Independence Day of Ukraine.
07:18We are confident that Ukrainians will always celebrate this holiday in their free capital
07:23and within their own sovereign state.
07:26Ukraine will always remain independent, this is beyond question.
07:30Together, we have given a historic answer through our unity, courage, and collective
07:36effort.
07:38The answer to whether Ukraine should exist, and whether Ukrainians should exist.
07:44When external aggression poses such a question to a nation, everything depends on millions
07:50of people, each through their actions determines the fate of the entire people, and the entire
07:56people, with their collective strength, determines the fate of each individual.
08:01Ukraine, I congratulate you on your Independence Day.
08:05Ukrainians, I am proud of you.
