This is George Priest from Fort Liverpool World at Finch Farm, following Sean Dyche's
00:04
press conference ahead of Everton's trip to face Tottenham in the Premier League this
00:08
weekend.
00:09
In terms of team news, Dyche revealed that Jared Brantley is still absent after missing
00:13
the opening day defeat to Brighton, as is James Garner and Seamus Coleman.
00:18
Use of Schimiti and Neven Patson are longer term issues, but the real key news information
00:22
that we heard was James Tarkowski is a doubt and he is apparently in a maybe situation
00:29
where he could be missing the game at the weekend, which is going to be a huge blow
00:32
for Everton, if it is indeed true.
00:34
He hasn't missed a game since joining the club, playing every single game across the
00:38
last two campaigns, he's joining on a free transfer from Burnley, so we will just have
00:42
to see at the weekend whether he starts or not.
00:44
If he doesn't, then it is almost guaranteed that we will see Jago Breen make his competitive
00:49
debut for the club alongside Michael Keane.
00:52
Just before the press conference started, there was a news report from the Athletic
00:57
Club claiming that Kieran Trippier is a potential target for Everton and that they have opened
01:01
talks over a potential loan deal that could be completed before the end of the window.
01:07
Trippier was left out of the matchday squad in Newcastle's opening weekend win against
01:11
Southampton and the 33-year-old is looking for first-team opportunities and Everton currently
01:16
have a worrying right-back situation.
01:19
He would be the perfect experienced figure to come in and show that side of their defence,
01:24
which is a worry given that their options are Ashley Young, Seamus Coleman and Nathan
01:29
Patterson who has really struggled to get any game time at all under Sean Dyche.
01:34
When asked about the potential transfer, Dyche claimed that Trippier is just one of many
01:37
names and he found it very funny that while they have a current right-back situation at
01:43
the moment where they are struggling to find someone to fill that gap, that his name pops
01:47
up.
01:48
But there is no doubting that he would be a fantastic signing even on a temporary deal
01:52
because he would bring quality, experience, he could also cover at left-back as well for
01:56
Vitaly Mikhalenko and we already know about his quality from set-pieces and his crossing
02:01
ability which would surely help Everton going forward and score more goals as a result as
02:06
well.
02:07
So it is a deal that they want to keep an eye on across the next few days.
02:10
In terms of the two clubs' recent history, we saw Tottenham beat Everton 2-1 at the Tottenham
02:15
Hotspur Stadium last season and Everton haven't won there in any of their last three visits
02:20
but they did manage to secure it.
02:22
A 1-0 win behind closed doors on the opening day of the 2020-21 season under Carlo Ancelotti
02:27
and that was the last time they won there and that was one of two victories since 2008.
02:31
So it hasn't been a happy hunting ground and it's only expected to become even tougher
02:36
this weekend given their injury issues and the fact that Tottenham have a fantastic fully
02:40
fit squad ready to right the wrongs of their opening day draw with Leicester City where
02:44
they were very dominant for the majority of the game but struggled to take their chances
02:49
and cornered up against the strike force of Dominic Solanke, Heung-Min Son, Charleson,
02:53
Dejan Kulovtseski and Brennan Johnson.
02:55
It's going to be a very difficult task for an Everton side that has been ravaged by injuries
03:00
so far.
