One of the groups that gave a new life to Italian prog music, despite they initially were a purely traditional folk group. Over the course of five years, in a crescendo of musical contaminations Il Canzoniere del Lazio came in 1976 to "Spirito bono". The album was unanimously recognized by critics as the most experimental and proggish work, whose production was entrusted to Peter Kaukonen brother of Jorma of Jefferson Airplane. "Spirito bono" is supported by a delicate balance between tipically European folkloristic conceptions with others more Oriental ones, with touches of Rileyan minimalism and not to mention the use of vocal polyphonies from the folk tradition of Sardinia.
