Italian trumpet and flugelhorn player Sergio Fanni from Turin had a long career, beginned in the 1960s, and had played in many important Italian jazz groups such as Giorgio Gaslini and Giorgio Buratti. "Hard suite" is a leader album released in 1975 with a band assembled for the occasion. The work as quintet introduces electric piano and electric bass, and developes a crossover style that takes a step forward from hard bop to fusion.
