00:00The most recent challenge has been the build of an amphibious canoe.

00:11My name is Ben Kilner.

00:12I'm a sort of content creator and YouTuber and just general maker of things.

00:22And so the journey begins.

00:24My attempt to cross the width of Scotland in this thing, one direction on water and

00:28then coming back on land.

00:30It's going to tip over at some point.

00:31And this thing, I wouldn't be surprised if it breaks because the loading on this is just

00:35insane.

00:36The canoe itself is a skin on frame canoe.

00:38It's how actually many cultures used to build their canoes and it's got a sort of basket

00:44type structure underneath with a fabric type skin on top.

00:48And it looks really fragile and is in some ways, but actually is surprisingly tough.

01:08So I then started to strap the wheels on and it's got three wheels, one wheel at the front,

01:14two wheels at the back.

01:16And it's essentially like a tricycle.

01:19It's propelled on land by standard pedals and wheels.

01:23And then on water, it's propelled as you would a bicycle from your feet.

01:27But then rather than having to paddle it through the water with your arms, it has feet of its

01:34own.

01:35They're more like sort of duck or swan feet.

01:37And so it walks through the water.

01:39So on the journey across the width of Scotland, along the Caledonian Canal, it shot along

01:44because it's got a sail as well and converted to road mode and came back from the Inverness

01:48to Fort William via the Great Glenway.

01:51Next up on my channels will be the seaworthy pedal paddle.

01:55It'll most likely be amphibious and it will be even more polished than the last one.

02:02So it'll be a longer build and it will be a full working prototype of a seaworthy human

02:08powered vessel.
