Weightlifter Kuo Hsing-chun Secures Taiwan's Sixth Olympic Medal in Paris

Taiwan's weightlifters have begun competing at the Paris Olympics. Tokyo Olympic gold medalist weightlifter Kuo Hsing-chun bagged a bronze for the country. TaiwanPlus reports from Paris.

00:00Taiwan now has six medals at the Paris Olympics.

00:04Weightlifter Guo Xingchun managed to take bronze in the women's 59kg event on Thursday.

00:11She managed to lift 105kg in the snatch.

00:14Then she lifted 130kg in the clean and jerk, giving her a combined score of 235kg lifted.

00:31Guo finished behind China's Luo Shifang and Canada's Maud Charon, who took gold and silver respectively.

00:39During Guo's final lift attempt, she had an opportunity to win the silver medal.

00:43Guo could have lifted 132kg to overtake Canada, but she went all-in and attempted 137kg,

00:50which would have kept her in gold medal contention with China.

00:53Guo is a four-time Olympian and three-time Olympic medalist.

00:58She won gold at the Tokyo Olympics and Paris may mark her last Olympic Games.

01:03Also in weightlifting, Fang Wanling competed in the 49kg event on Wednesday,

01:32but did not medal.

01:34However, during her competition, she broke Taiwan's national record

01:37for a snatch in her category, lifting 86kg.

01:48With the addition of Thursday's bronze, Taiwan's official medal tally at the Paris Olympics

01:53sits at one gold and five bronze.
