Our Port Health officers identified a truck driver with a generalised rash at Taita Taveta's
00:07
top border point on 23rd of July 2024.
00:11
He reported having symptoms of two weeks prior.
00:16
The patient was isolated at Taita Taveta sub-county hospital where the clinicians suspected either
00:23
chicken pox or m-pox.
00:25
During lesion, samples were taken, results from the National Public Health Laboratories
00:33
detected m-pox on 29th of July 2024.
00:39
This was validated by other reference laboratories in the National Laboratory Network.
00:46
The patient has since recovered, however, due to the infectiousness of m-pox and as
00:55
per international guidelines for m-pox response, the Ministry of Health and the County Health
01:01

01:08
with the patient.
01:10
We are tracing all his close contacts at his workplace, at the hospital where he was admitted
01:18
and along his travel routes.
01:21
So far, no other case has been identified in the country.
01:26
The patient has travelled through Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania and Rwanda, so we are working
