00:00Welcome back to this Wednesday edition of the Early Line. It is

00:06Wednesday, July 24th 2024 on August 24th 2024. The college

00:14football season officially begins. That means we are

00:17exactly 1 month out from the start of the 2024 college

00:22football campaign earlier in the show to start off our two.

00:25We talk to Rhett Lewis live in Indianapolis for Big Ten media

00:30days. It's talking season both in the Big Ten and in the ACC

00:35and on the opening day of ACC media days, both Florida State

00:39and Georgia Tech were at the mic and at the podium. We'll

00:42talk about FSU and of course the disaster of how last year

00:46came to a close for the Seminoles and what their

00:48expectations are for 2024, but let's just bask in this moment.

00:54If only for a second 1 month away from the start of a new

00:59college football season. Yes, it's week zero. It's not till

01:03the following Saturday. That's our first full Saturday of the

01:062024 college football campaign and even this week zero

01:10Saturday slate to kick off a new college football season,

01:14not nearly as good or illustrious or jam packed as we

01:18have seen even in years past. We only have three games that

01:22feature an FBS program, but one of those over in Aviva

01:27Stadium, the Dublin debut in Ireland, an ACC opener between

01:32Florida State and Georgia Tech. The Seminoles a twelve and a

01:36half point favorite against the Yellow Jackets, the over under

01:4054 and a half. There will be a ton of national attention on

01:44Florida State, not only for sky high expectations as the

01:48preseason favorites to win the ACC title for a second

01:52consecutive year entering 2024, but because of how last

01:56year came to a close and that was Florida State, a perfect

02:01unbeaten campaign topped off with an ACC championship

02:05victory over Louisville, but they did so with a third string

02:09quarterback in Brock Glenn. Of course, their leader, their

02:13quarterback Jordan Travis injured in their second to last

02:17regular season game because of that admitted by the college

02:20football playoff selection committee. Florida State was a

02:22differently constructed team and they did not reach the

02:25college football playoff. I was mad. A lot of people were mad

02:29at it because in the 10 year history of the four team format

02:32of the college football playoff, Florida State was one

02:35of fifteen undefeated power five conference champions.

02:39Florida State was the only one of that group of fifteen that

02:43was an undefeated power five conference title winner to not

02:46reach the college football playoff because their

02:49quarterback was not there. Not despite what the resume said or

02:54how they matched adversity each and every time following the

02:58season ending injury to Jordan Travis, but that's old news.

03:02That was 2023. It's a different team here in 2024 and Mike

03:07Norvell Seminoles are a favorite to win the ACC at a plus 170

03:13number. Florida State has the highest win total in all of the

03:16ACC nine and a half and the over has the juice. Other teams

03:19in the conference, Clemson and Miami have a win total of nine

03:23and a half, but the under has the juice. Mario Cristobal at

03:26the podium today for the Hurricanes in Charlotte during

03:29ACC media days. I have already bet Florida State to win the

03:33ACC. The schedule is difficult for FSU in terms of their

03:37overall outlook, but the best path for Florida State to a

03:41college football playoff to make good on what was taken from

03:45them last year is the champion of the ACC once again. Why do I

03:50say that twelve team expanded college football playoff

03:53shouldn't there be more opportunity this year for the

03:56Seminoles than there was even a year ago in the four team

03:59format seven at large berths not so much because of how difficult

04:04the schedule is overall for Florida State and that's going

04:09to be a common thread this year for the ACC in the big twelve

04:12the two teams in the power for the two leagues in the power

04:15for conferences that trail behind the big ten and the SEC.

04:19It will be a fascinating case study in this first year of a

04:22twelve team format to see how many of those at large bids go

04:26to the big ten and the SEC versus the ACC and the big

04:30twelve Florida State though by virtue of winning the

04:33conference would earn one of those five automatic berths for

04:36the five highest ranked conference champions around the

04:41country. So if you're betting Florida State with some

04:44vengeance, it may be a chip on its shoulder entering 2024.

04:49Take the Seminoles price to win the ACC and it starts with that

04:53Dublin debut, but one final point just a handicap in this

04:56game. Brent Key back at his alma mater, the head coach now

04:59entering his second full year with Georgia Tech has this

05:03program trending in the right direction. A bowl victory last

05:07year and as an underdog, they're getting twelve and a

05:10half points against FSU in the Irish opener darn good last

05:14year. Seven and two against the spread. The early line is

05:18back tomorrow starting at an 8 AM Eastern time. Start time on
