00:18We know the presence of unwanted and harmful substances in the air is termed as air pollution.

00:28Any additional gases, particles or odors that are introduced into the air and can cause

00:35harm to living things can be termed as pollution.

00:42Now let's see what are the major effects of air pollution.

00:47First of all let's see what are the health effects on health.

00:54Some of the pollutants in the air can be very harmful for health of living beings.

01:01Chemicals like benzyne or vinyl chloride in the air can cause diseases like cancer, birth

01:11defects, long term injuries to lungs and even death.

01:17Breathing polluted air may cause infections in eyes and nose.

01:24Air pollution due to traffic is the main reason behind the increase in number of asthma patients.

01:34Chemical pollutants in the air when mixed with rain, it forms acid rain which is very

01:41harmful for all living beings.

01:45Acid rain destroys trees, crops, farms, animals and also pollute the water bodies that again

01:55harms the living things that depend on the water of that water body.

02:01Another important effect of pollution is smog.

02:05It is formed when fog is mixed with smoke and a poisonous form of fog is formed which

02:13we call as smog.

02:17It can be very harmful to breathe in too much of smog as it contains a pollutant called

02:24ozone and ozone is a gas that is very harmful for our lungs.

02:35Smog also reduces the visibility.

02:39We learnt a few major effects of air pollution.

02:46What are the major causes of air pollution?

02:51Emissions from industries and manufacturing activities.

02:56Almost all types of industries emit a lot of smoke that is released into the atmosphere

03:03and pollutes the air.

03:06Air smoke has high levels of harmful gases and particles like carbon dioxide, carbon

03:14monoxide, hydrocarbons and organic compounds that are very harmful.

03:24Burning of fossil fuels.

03:28Fuels like gasoline, diesel, kerosene, coal are examples of fossil fuels.

03:36All vehicles use some fossil fuel mainly gasoline for running and emit a lot of smoke

03:44that contains a lot of pollutants like carbon monoxide, oxides of nitrogen, hydrocarbons

03:53and particulates.

03:55On their own they cause great harm to people who breathe them and additionally they react

04:02with the environmental gases to create further toxic gases.

04:10This emission of smoke from vehicles is a prime reason of air pollution as our world

04:17consists of vehicles in millions.

04:21As today every person's life relies on some or the other kind of vehicle.

04:28Vehicles are required for transporting goods and to travel from one place to another and

04:35we all need to travel.

04:39Household and farming chemicals, crop dusting, fumigating homes, household cleaning products,

04:50painting supplies, insecticides, weedicides, fertilizers all emit harmful substances into

04:59the air and cause some kind of pollution.

05:04So kids we learn what are the major causes of air pollution.

05:11Now let's learn how we can control air pollution.

05:16There should be sufficient distance between industrial and residential areas.

05:24The chimneys in the industries should be made sufficiently tall so that smoke is released

05:31as higher as possible.

05:35The mining areas should be planted with trees.

05:40All fuel should be used least possible.

05:47Vehicles must be designed with emission control system.

05:55Vehicles must get regular maintenance checks.

06:00We must try to join carpools or vanpools so as to save fossil fuels.

06:08Always try to prefer public transports or walk small distances or use a bicycle.

06:21Always try to buy energy efficient appliances, recycle newspaper, aluminum and plastic waste.

06:30We should plant more and more trees.
