00:00And though we might disagree whole-heartedly on our politics, you should be applauded for

00:07standing up for Britain.

00:09A special thank you to my family, to John, Maddy, Sam, Charlie and Tom, for your forbearance

00:15and for encouraging me, and for being a tower of strength and love.

00:20You are the young people who inspire me to deliver a better Britain.

00:25And to my mum, who understood, as mums always do.

00:29And to the friends and family who have kept the children fed over the last six weeks,

00:35and who I love more than they will ever know.

00:38A huge thank you to my amazing team, and to my agent David Steves.

00:44To all the many, many volunteers and supporters who have played a role in this campaign.

01:09Today is the beginning of a fresh start for Aisha Morton.

01:13This is an historic victory for the Liberal Democrats.

01:17The first time the MP has not been a Conservative for over 115 years.

01:30And it is an historic night also for Aisha Morton,

01:34because it is also the first time that it has elected a female MP.

01:44It's about time.

01:46The biggest thank you must go to the people of Aisha Morton.

01:50I have met an incredible community in the last five years,

01:54and I am proud to be one of you.

01:57Aisha Morton has been my home for almost 20 years.

02:01I have raised my children here, and it is the privilege of my life

02:06to be standing here in front of you, this morning, as your new MP.

02:12I am honoured and humbled that you have put your faith in me.

02:17From the Dittons, to the Muldeys, to Hinchley Wood, to Aisha, to Claygate, to Hersham, to Walton and Tobin's.

02:26Thank you for talking to me about your lives and your communities,

02:30for welcoming me into your homes, your clubs, your places of worship, your schools.

02:36For sharing your worries and your hopes for the future.

02:40And to those I met, to the families who are struggling through this cost of living crisis,

02:46the small business owners at the heart of our local community who need more support,

02:51and the countless people I have met who are waiting weeks to access health care.

02:57To the swimmers and the rowers and the nature lovers who see the destruction of our rivers.

03:04To all the young people who are struggling to find mental health support as they make their way into the future.

03:12To the teachers and the health care workers, to the police and the frontline services

03:17who are stretched to the limit and yet still care for us and keep us safe.

03:23People of all walks of life who have been let down and taken for granted again and again

03:29by this out-of-touch and out-going Conservative government.

03:38I hear you and I will fight for you all year round.

03:44And to everyone here in Easham Water, no matter how you voted in this election,

03:49I promise to be your local champion in Parliament.

03:54Five years ago, the people of Easham Water delivered a warning shot to the Conservative MP

03:59that they couldn't put up with being taken for granted.

04:02That warning went unheeded.

04:04Instead, the Conservatives squandered the mandate that we gave them and squandered our trust.

04:10We were given slogans and empty promises, exploiting challenges rather than solving them,

04:16causing division rather than collaboration.

04:19They put their party's needs before ours.

04:22It looks like that era is now over.

04:25Tonight is a victory for hope.

04:28Tonight is a victory for truth, for collaboration and consensus to solve the challenges we face

04:36and for common sense and finding common ground over ideology and populism.

04:42It is a vote here in Easham Water for progressive politics

04:46and a rejection of the parties that pander to the far right.

04:51I came into politics because I felt let down.

04:55And as your MP, I will not let you down.

05:00As your MP, I will fight every day for the fair deal and brighter future that you and your families deserve.
