02:12
I would like to give a special thank you and congratulations to Olivia Frances Blake
02:15
and I invite her to make her speech.
02:30
Well, I just want to start by thanking everyone who has been involved in the smooth running of this election
02:39
and to the returning officers, Kate Jones and all her team
02:43
who have been overseeing both the election and the camps and the smooth running of all the elements of it.
02:49
We know the long hours and sacrifice of time and energy it takes
02:55
so I pay tribute to all the candidates in this election
02:58
who aspired to serve our community and represent Sheffield Hallam in Westminster.
03:04
In our Labour Party, we know that we are stronger when we work together, collectively.
03:10
So to the hundreds of people who tirelessly knocked on doors, delivered leaflets
03:16
and volunteered in countless ways to deliver this result, thank you.
03:20
I am humbled by your dedication and discipline and care for the people in our community.
03:28
I also want to thank my agent in Skype now and all my core campaign team.
03:34
But my final thanks go to all those who looked around themselves after 14 years of Conservative vandalism
03:42
who saw the damage the Conservative Party has done and said now is the time for change.
03:49
Today, that change has come.
03:52
I know this is the first time many of you have voted for Labour in Sheffield Hallam
03:57
and I know that many people in the constituency will have put their mark in a different box.
04:02
To you, I say it again.
04:04
I am determined to be an MP for all in our community
04:07
because the issues we face are huge and affect all of us.
04:11
Our public services crumbling, the cost of living soaring and our NHS on life support.
04:18
All while the climate and nature emergency deepens
04:21
and the populist riot seeks to exploit fear and create scapegoats.
04:25
We face enormous challenges.
04:27
Today, this vote is for the new politics focused on addressing them.
04:32
Fighting for economic security, cheaper bills, safer streets, the NHS at back home speeds,
04:40
better opportunities for our children and young people and action to protect our environment.
04:46
Together, we have worked to build a movement of change across our community in Sheffield Hallam.
04:52
Now we must rise to meet the great challenges we face
04:55
and together begin the work of building a better country.
04:59
Let's get started.
