Top 10 Animated Shows That Deserve Emmy Nominations in 2024

For your Emmy consideration, animation in call categories. Welcome to MsMojo, and today we’re looking at animated programs that have been submitted for consideration at the 2024 Primetime Emmys, singling out the ones most deserving of nominations.

00:06Welcome to Ms. Mojo, and today we're looking at animated programs that have been submitted

00:11for consideration at the 2024 Primetime Emmys, singling out the ones most deserving of nominations.

00:24Number 10. Futurama.

00:27Just when you thought the Planet Express crew was out, Hulu pulled them back in.

00:31Considering how well Season 7 wrapped up a decade earlier, we weren't sure if Futurama

00:36needed to return. Much has happened during that 10-year gap, though, giving Futurama

00:40plenty to parody in Season 8. It also explored topics that the show surprisingly hadn't covered

00:54before, like simulated realities, which provides the basis for the episode all the way down.

00:59It's easy to see why the team chose this episode for outstanding animated program consideration,

01:04given its inventive story and experimental animation.

01:07While Futurama has been an Emmy favorite for years, several cast members are overdue.

01:26Billy West and John DiMaggio have never been nominated for an Emmy. Let's fix that.

01:37Number 9. Harley Quinn.

01:39Harley Quinn stands out as one of the funniest shows of the past few years, animation or live

01:44action. The only thing more consistent than the show's laugh ratio is the TV Academy's

01:49reluctance to nominate it for an Emmy. Sometimes it takes a while for a show to catch on with

02:03voters, and we can only hope Season 4 provides a breakthrough for Team Harley. This year,

02:08the crew has entered Icons Only for Outstanding Animated Program and Writing for a Comedy Series.

02:21Several cast members, including Kaley Cuoco and Lake Bell, also chose this episode as their

02:26outstanding character voice-over performance submission. The episode makes strong use of

02:30its ensemble with outrageous interlocking comedic hijinks, complemented by a glitzy

02:35Las Vegas backdrop. Number 8. Pluto.

02:54We rarely see anime shows at the Emmys because they simply aren't submitted.

02:58Even when they are, voters tend to favor Western animation. This year brings a few

03:03Eastern offerings, with Ninja Kamui and Pluto. The latter is an especially gripping miniseries

03:08that draws from Astro Boy with several dark twists. Based on Naoki Urasawa's manga,

03:24the series takes place in an evolved society where humans and robots have learned to coexist.

03:29This makes it all the more shocking when a beloved robot is murdered with more bodies,

03:33mechanical and flesh, soon piling up. The first episode establishes this overarching mystery,

03:39while finding room for an emotional standalone story about a blind composer and his robot butler.

03:44If nominated, Pluto could make Emmy history.

03:54Number 7. Scavenger's Reign.

04:00From its first episode, which has been submitted for outstanding animated program consideration,

04:05Scavenger's Reign immerses us in a foreign planet that feels alive in more ways than one.

04:10The world of Vesta is haunting yet oddly inviting, making us want to explore every inch,

04:15despite the skin-crawling danger around every corner.

04:25Thankfully, we have a cast of well-defined characters to accompany us on individual journeys

04:35that gradually merge towards something larger. We sadly may never know what that something is,

04:40as Max prematurely cancelled Scavenger's Reign after one season.

04:55The good news is that Netflix might pick it up for a second season,

05:01and an Emmy nomination would certainly give them another reason to do so.

05:04We have only scratched the surface of this world.

05:16Number 6. Invincible.

05:19Fans waited an eternity between seasons 1 and 2 of Invincible.

05:23In reality, it was more like two years, but it felt like forever,

05:26which is alluded to in the season's penultimate episode.

05:29I gotta ask, when's the new season of Seance Dog coming out?

05:32You mean the show? Probably not for another year. Sorry, animation takes a long time.

05:39It's the season 2 finale that's being pushed for Emmy consideration, however.

05:43The superhero drama again caps things off on a hard-hitting note,

05:46as Mark enters a rematch with a vengeful Angstrom.

05:49You really don't remember who I am. Let me help.

05:54When we met before, you hadn't done this to me.

05:59Mark has repeatedly demonstrated that his spirit is more invincible than his body.

06:03Throughout this season, though, we see the potential for Mark to go down a darker path.

06:08Angstrom not only tests Mark's physical strength,

06:10but also how far he's willing to go to protect his loved ones,

06:14revealing victory and loss as two sides of the same coin.

06:18Go home. Get some rest.

06:22You're not him.

06:28You weren't there.

06:30Number 5. Scott Pilgrim Takes Off

06:33I had a dream about that girl again.

06:37I didn't care the first time you told me. Care even less now.

06:41Some expected Scott Pilgrim Takes Off to be a straightforward adaptation.

06:44The pilot heads in this direction,

06:46but suddenly shifts the spotlight to Ramona and the supporting players

06:49in Scott Pilgrim's precious little life.

06:52This helps the show to form a unique identity by the time we reach episode 3,

06:56Ramona rents a video,

06:57which is in the running for outstanding animated program consideration.

07:01As far as I'm concerned, you won.

07:04At the same time, creator Brian Lee O'Malley and co-developer Ben David Grabinski

07:09celebrate all things Scott Pilgrim.

07:11Animation studio Science Saru brings the comic's artwork to life with kinetic energy,

07:16while the voice talent reunites the cast from the 2010 cult classic.

07:20We'd love to see the actors get some Emmy love

07:22along with the song Scott Pilgrim's Precious Little Musical.

07:26Killer work. Watch that.

07:28Bad boy of Broadway.

07:30Tremendous. Spectacular.

07:31Not bad.

07:32Number 4. Has Been Hotel

07:35Speaking of songs, Has Been Hotel should be a frontrunner in outstanding music and lyrics

07:40for the infinitely upbeat Loser Baby from the episode Masquerade.

07:43I'm a loser, honey, a schmoozer and a dummy,

07:49but at least I know I'm not alone.

07:52You're a loser just like me.

07:54That same episode has been entered for outstanding writing for a comedy series,

07:58but in the animated program category, the crew submitted Dad Beat Dad.

08:02This episode introduces Charlie's father,

08:05who isn't everything you'd expect Lucifer to be.

08:07You're inviting me over?

08:11Absolutely!

08:13I'll be there in an hour.

08:16My daughter wants to see me.

08:18Take that, depression!

08:20If Lucifer can be a loving father, there might be hope for others in hell,

08:24further vindicating Charlie's dream of rehabilitating sinners.

08:28In that sense, this episode sums up what the show is all about,

08:31complete with lively music and eye-popping animation.

08:34Vivian Medrano's creation has come a long way since its YouTube genesis.

08:38Whatever happens at the Emmys, it's a winner, baby.

08:42Well, that was something I didn't expect to see.

08:45Like I said, you don't know me.

08:47Sex ain't the only thing I'm good at.

08:50Good to know, because this guy ain't half bad.

08:53Number three, Adventure Time, Fiona and Cake.

08:57What if she's just bored with everything and wishes the world was more magical?

09:01It should be more magical.

09:03Since Fiona and Cake were introduced as fictional characters in Adventure Time,

09:07you wouldn't think a show about them would do much to advance the story.

09:10Fiona and Cake are far more important to the lore than anyone initially assumed, however.

09:15This spinoff is just as much about Simon Petrikov, aka Ice King,

09:19voiced by Tom Kenny in an Emmy-worthy performance.

09:22This is going to sound nuts, but I think I've been dreaming about you.

09:27I wouldn't be at all surprised.

09:30I'm radical.

09:31As for Outstanding Animated Program, the crew submitted the episode The Winter King,

09:35which presents several familiar faces in a fresh light.

09:38It's one of several episodes that take us across a multiverse of wonder

09:42in a series that balances complex ideas and charming characters as only Adventure Time can.

09:48While more adult-oriented than its predecessor, Fiona and Cake is eternally young at heart.

09:53That's actually a nice metaphor.

09:55Not a metaphor.

09:57Number two, X-Men 97.

09:59Another show that grew up with its viewers,

10:02X-Men 97 evolves everything we loved about its predecessor to the next level,

10:06from the vibrant animation to the serialized storytelling to the mature themes.

10:14Eyes, you made it.

10:17You survived.

10:18The original series was shockingly never nominated for a single Emmy.

10:22Voters can do 97 justice by nominating the episode Remember It for Outstanding Animated Program.

10:28A high point of an exceptional first season,

10:31this episode overflows with intense action, emotional turns, and heartbreaking performances.

10:37Most notably, Lenore Zan is rogue.

10:39If Genosha's shown us anything, it's that we don't need to be afraid of change.

10:45And if I can play a bigger role and better in the world,

10:49well, that's the whole reason I became an X-Man.

10:52It's no wonder that Zan also selected this as her submission in the voiceover category.

10:57Marvel has another contender with What If?

10:59Cohorti Reshaped the World,

11:01but few superhero shows have captured the zeitgeist like this throwback

11:04that's constantly looking forward.

11:06I may not be Jean Grey, but I know what the professor would say if he was here.

11:11Time to dream bigger.

13:30And so the bride met her death.

13:33But she did not meet her end.

13:35Within her lifeless body roiled a tempest of hate, betrayal, injustice, possessing her soul.

13:45Maya Erskine delivers a restrained yet deeply powerful performance as Mizu,

13:49while Kenneth Branagh crafts the most hateable villain of recent memory.

13:53Blue Eye Samurai already swept the Annie's.

13:55It deserves to conquer the Emmys next, and not just in the animation categories.
