00:00The International Criminal Court has issued arrest warrants for two Russian officials
00:19over attacks on Ukrainian civilian targets.
00:22Former Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu and Military Chief of Staff General Valery Gerasimov
00:29are charged with war crimes and crimes against humanity, the ICC accusing them of directing
00:35attacks at civilian objects and causing excessive incidental harm to civilians.
00:42All charges are related to strikes against Ukraine's electrical grid from October 2022
00:48to March 2023.
00:58Russian media reports of a direct Russia-U.S. clash, a Russian military jet downing an American
01:03surveillance drone.
01:05Reports in Russian media say it's MiG-31 chased and downed an American military drone, that's
01:10the RQ-4, as it carried out a surveillance mission over the Black Sea near Crimea.
01:17This drone is equipped with sophisticated phased array antenna radar, cameras and sensors
01:23that monitor maritime areas and coastal regions.
01:27U.S. officials have dismissed the claims of an incident over the Black Sea.
01:32They say the U.S. drone merely switched off its transponder and later responded and later
01:38it landed safely in Italy.
01:49North Korea on Wednesday morning launched a ballistic missile that appears to have failed.
01:54According to South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff, the regime fired a ballistic missile
01:58toward the East Sea at around 5.30 a.m. from the Pyongyang area.
02:02A military official explained that the North appears to have attempted to test-launch a
02:06hypersonic missile.
02:07However, the military said the launch apparently failed as the missile reportedly exploded
02:12mid-air after traveling some 250 kilometers.
02:16Seoul and Washington's intelligence authorities are conducting further analysis of the launch.
02:21This is the regime's first ballistic missile launch in almost a month.
02:33Israel's Supreme Court has ruled unanimously that the military must begin drafting ultra-Orthodox
02:38men for compulsory service, a landmark decision that could lead to the collapse of Prime Minister
02:43Benjamin Netanyahu's governing coalition as Israel continues to wage war in Gaza.
02:49Now, the court ruled that in the absence of a law, compulsory military service applies
02:53to the ultra-Orthodox like any other citizen.
02:56The historic ruling effectively puts an end to a decades-old system that granted ultra-Orthodox
03:03men broad exemptions from military service while maintaining mandatory enlistment for
03:07the country's secular Jewish majority.
03:13WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange walked out of a U.S. federal court in the northern Mariana
03:24Islands free, having spent most of the last 14 years in some form of detainment while
03:31fighting extradition to the U.S.
03:34In court, Assange admitted he broke U.S. law by encouraging classified leaks, but says
03:39the law violates free speech rights.
03:43The U.S. Justice Department's plea deal allows Assange to accept a single felony count of
03:48violating the Espionage Act.
03:51It's a far cry from the 18 U.S. felonies he was facing and the possibility of 175 years
03:58in prison.
03:59At least five people have been killed in protests against a bill to raise taxes in Kenya.
04:15Police fired on demonstrators trying to storm parliament after the incident, the Kenyan
04:23William Ruto said security was his utmost priority.
04:29The protest follows simmering frustrations in the country over the high cost of living.
04:45The United Nations Security Council has authorized the deployment of a multinational security
04:50support mission to Haiti to assist the Haitian national police in their fight against criminal
04:56gangs.
04:58Kenya has volunteered a police contingent that will lead the mission, but it's not the
05:03first time foreign troops have been deployed to Haiti.
05:06Since the early 1900s, there's been at least three foreign interventions, including a decades-long
05:12occupation by the United States.
05:15The last foreign force to leave the country was a U.N. stabilization mission known as
05:19which was deployed in 2004 after the removal of President Jean-Bertrand d'Aristide.
