00:00We begin with breaking news coming out of France, where a series of arson attacks have
00:18disrupted the country's high-speed rail network just hours before the Olympic opening
00:23ceremony in Paris.
00:24Authorities say rail lines, including those passing through Montparnasse in the capital,
00:30have been severely affected.
00:32The route to the Stade de France venue has been closed.
00:37Repairs are underway, but officials say restrictions could last throughout the weekend.
00:42The Games are set to make history with the opening ceremony taking place outdoors instead
00:46of in a stadium.
00:54On the eve of the opening ceremony, authorities tonight say they foiled an alleged Russian
01:01plot to disrupt the Summer Games in Paris.
01:04A Cordon Bleu-trained chef is reportedly under arrest for trying to provoke hostilities
01:08in France.
01:09Though French officials haven't identified the suspect, a joint investigation by France's
01:13Le Mans, Germany's Der Spiegel and the Russia-focused The Insider identified him as 40-year-old
01:18Kirill Gryaznov.
01:20He is an FSB officer, which is a Russian intelligence officer, who spent 14 years living
01:25in France posing as a chef.
01:28And tonight, facing international outcry over the war in Gaza, Israel accusing Iran of trying
01:33to intimidate Israel's Olympic team.
01:35They claim 15 athletes received death threats by email and phone, with imagery echoing the
01:40horrific 1972 attack at the Munich Games.
01:51France's Interior Minister has thanked Belgium after authorities carried out 14 raids across
01:56the country and detained seven people over suspected terrorist activities.
02:01Belgium's Federal Prosecutor's Office said that all the people concerned are suspected
02:05of participating in the activities of a terrorist group.
02:09Thursday's raids happened a day before the opening of the Olympic Games in Paris.
02:13450,000 police officers from 44 countries are taking part in the security operation
02:19to secure the opening ceremony.
02:29For the first time ever, two Chinese military planes have been intercepted in international
02:34waters near Alaska.
02:36That's according to the North American Aerospace Defense Command.
02:39The Chinese bombers were accompanied by two Russian long-range bombers yesterday.
02:43U.S. and Canadian fighter jets were sent up in response, but things ended without incident.
02:57A Philippines oil tanker capsized and sank in Manila Bay earlier on Thursday local time,
03:03spilling some 1.5 million liters of industrial fuel, while one of its 17 crew members was
03:09reportedly killed.
03:12Surviving crew members stated that the motor tanker Terra Nova left Bataan province en
03:17route to the central province of Iloilo when it was met with huge waves and capsized, despite
03:23the crew's efforts to steer the ship back to port.
03:26Coast Guard spokesperson Armando Balillo said that an aerial survey estimates that the oil
03:32spills could to be currently contained within a 3.7-kilometer vicinity from where the tanker
03:38sank.
