Council planners have given the go-ahead for a new landmark community building and commercial centre
00:08
as part of a £25 million regeneration scheme in Staveley.
00:12
Chesterfield Borough Council approved its own planning application for the new two-storey pavilion building
00:18
which will include a business centre, library and public conveniences on Marketplace.
00:23
The pavilion is part of the Market Square refurbishment plan and the Staveley 21 project
00:28
included in the government-funded Staveley Town Deal regeneration scheme.
00:32
The package of improvements to Staveley Town Centre includes plans to rejuvenate the High Street
00:37
with a shopfront improvement scheme and new pavement and public realm improvements.
00:42
There are also plans for improved connections between the canal and town centre with new lighting and signage.
00:50
A convicted robber who went on the run from a prison in Derbyshire has been found and detained, police have confirmed.
00:56
Rocky Taylor failed to return after leaving HMP Sudbury earlier this year.
01:00
The 37-year-old was serving a seven-year sentence after being convicted of aggravated burglary and robbery.
01:06
Derbyshire Police issued a public appeal for help to find him but confirmed last night that he has now been detained.
01:12
The force said,
01:13
The 37-year-old was detained by officers from Norfolk Police.
01:16
Thank you to everyone who shared our appeal to find him.
01:22
The caretaker of a Chesterfield primary school has been honoured with the National Education Award
01:26
for his tireless efforts to help staff and students going above and beyond the call of duty to become something like a superhero.
01:33
Lee Turner, who has worked at Cavendish Junior School on Edmund Street for the last five years,
01:37
was among over 100 deserving teachers, lecturers, leaders, sports staff and institutions
01:42
named as silver winners in this year's Pearson National Teaching Awards.
01:46
His prize in the Unsung Hero category was presented to coincide with National Thank a Teacher Day
01:51
and caught Lee so much by surprise he happened to be dressed in hula dancing gear at the time.
01:56
Acting Headteacher Dan Power said,
01:58
He runs clubs, goes on residential visits and leads outdoor learning.
02:02
He is humble and selfless and does it all purely because he cares.
02:06
He really wants the best for the children and has a clear love of the school and everyone and everything in it.
02:12
We're delighted to be here at Cavendish Junior School today to celebrate Mr Turner, the caretaker,
02:16
winning a silver award for the Pearson National Teaching Award in the category of Unsung Hero.
02:24
Mr Turner is so deserving of this award.
02:26
From a school point of view, the second I walked in this building it has Mr Turner written all over it.
02:32
He is the absolute definition of hero and as a school we want to sing and shout about it as much as possible.
02:39
The school, I said to the staff this morning, the school really is a magical special place to learn, to work
02:45
and a lot of that is down to Lee and everything that is about to come his way is thoroughly well deserved.
02:51
A little bit of a shock but absolutely what a hero and thank you Lee.
02:57
Thank you very much. It's certainly been a bit of a morning this morning
03:01
but it's a pleasure to accept this award for such a beautiful school.
03:08
Thank you so much.
03:09
You're welcome, thank you.
