Alas Pilipinas Lineup ‘Promising’

Former Philippine national women's volleyball team player Jaja Santiago raved about the potential of the Alas Pilipinas lineup composed of a mixture of veterans and youthful players.

Santiago, who's undergoing Japanese naturalization to play for Japan's national team, said that the Alas team competing at the AVC Challenge Cup can go places like in the Volleyball Nations League or even the Olympics.

Alas swept Pool A, 4-0, defeating Taiwan, 25-13, 25-21, 25-18, on May 26 and will face Kazakhstan in the semifinals on May 28.

00:00 This is their only part. This is what they are showing.
00:04 I think going to the semifinals, the connection will be more stronger.
00:09 And they will deliver really. I think they can be the champions of the world.
00:15 How proud are you of your performance in the World Rampage?
00:20 I'm very proud because before, we were trying to go up and we were trying to qualify in other leagues.
00:28 This time, we got to see their movement and how our girls are working hard in every game.
00:38 So I'm proud and I'm also proud to see all the people in the arena supporting them.
00:46 And I think that's one of the reasons why we were able to deliver and perform well.
00:55 How impressed are you with the chemistry? It's been a while since you've been in a WACCA but you're here.
01:02 How impressed are you with the chemistry? It's been a while since you've been in a WACCA but you're here.
01:08 Actually, I don't know how to react with their chemistry right now.
01:12 Like I said earlier, in a short of time, their connection is really strong.
01:18 And I think one of the reasons is the team. I think that's one of the good things now that there are people leading them in the court and they follow.
01:31 As a former member, what is your wish for the National League World Rampage?
01:36 Of course, my wish is that this team will continue until we really have a big potential that eventually we'll be in the UNL or Olympics.
01:50 And with this kind of lineup, I think we can get that team.
01:54 Gaja, what do you see in their character? What do you see in their character that's why they were able to sweep the elimination?
02:00 Everyone is a fighter, actually. And you can see in everyone that they really feel to give their best and to win every game.
02:12 And I can see in their lineup that whoever goes in, I will deliver. That's the good thing in the characteristics of the players now.
02:21 Gaja, what do you see in this team compared to the other national teams?
02:27 I think this is the youngest player in the team. And even though she's young, she's like an angel.
02:37 Even though this is her first time and Gagate's first time to play in the national team, you can see their willingness and deliver really well in the game.
02:51 [Gaja, what do you see in this team compared to the other national teams?]
