Brisbane Lions players team up with Queensland Ballet to help dancers prepare for latest production

What do footballers and ballet dancers have in common? Turns out, quite a lot. They both require athleticism, agility, and some fancy footwork. So, one AFL side is teaming up with a ballet company to help dancers prepare for their latest production.

00:00 It's a tale almost as old as time.

00:04 Capella is a very old ballet.

00:06 It was created back in 1870.

00:10 The story is about love, jealousy and this time, footy.

00:14 What better way to give it an Australian context than to have some Australian football.

00:20 The performance will include a scene about an AFL victory and Queensland Ballet is recruiting

00:25 the Brisbane Lions.

00:26 Back, through and then just play it, knock it.

00:30 To help them get their moves right.

00:31 They picked up handball and kicking real fast so I told them mid-season drafts coming up

00:36 and a few of them looked pretty excited about that.

00:40 The strength and stuff that they have in their legs is very powerful so a lot of footy, you

00:44 know agility and types of things like that are very important in not only footy but ballet

00:49 as well.

00:50 After watching today I was blown away with the amount of power and stuff that they need

00:53 to be able to perform.

00:54 But it's not this midfielder's first time in a ballet studio.

00:58 When I was younger, myself, my brother and sister, my sister was already doing ballet

01:01 and then my brother and I joined in after our parents were like it would be good for

01:06 you to have a go and see how it pans out.

01:09 With two weeks to go before opening night at QPAC's Playhouse Theatre, these ballet

01:13 stars behind me still have a bit of practice before stepping out onto the big stage.
