00:00 Aurora Borealis is a rare sight to be seen in many parts of the world, aside from Iceland and Norway.
00:07 It is the reason for the strong solar storm experienced in the last two decades.
00:12 Here is the first news of Darlene Cai.
00:14 Aurora is in the news.
00:20 It's not a province.
00:22 It's not a road.
00:28 If not, the colorful dancing lights in the sky.
00:32 Aurora Borealis is called when it is seen in the north part of the world.
00:37 Aurora Australis is in the east part.
00:40 It's been a long time since Chiara dreamed of seeing this.
00:46 That's why she was very surprised when she saw Aurora Borealis in Vancouver, Canada where she lives now.
00:53 When I first saw it from above, it was like I could see it with my eyes.
01:00 Because it's not that strong here.
01:04 Then when we were filming, the colors suddenly came out.
01:11 It was blue, green, and violet.
01:16 It was so beautiful, I was amazed. It was unreal.
01:19 Aurora is usually seen in Nordic countries like Iceland and Norway.
01:24 But due to the strong solar storm that happened in the last two decades,
01:29 according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration,
01:33 Aurora is seen in other parts of the world.
01:36 We are protected from solar flares.
01:38 This is what we call the magnetic field of our world.
01:41 But there is a weak spot in the northern and southern hemispheres.
01:45 That's why the auroras are only manifested in areas near the North Pole.
01:52 It's because of the presence of light that's seen in the mid-latitudes or tropical areas like our country.
02:03 According to Pag-asa, it can be affected by satellites deployed in space and other types of technology.
02:10 But there's nothing to worry about because there's no direct effect of Pag-asa in the Philippines.
02:17 NASA has already set up a team to ensure the safety of astronauts in the International Space Station.
02:24 But in the areas where Aurora is seen, they will just enjoy the view.
02:28 This is the first news, Darlene Kaye for GMA Integrated News.
