Morley: One of the most patriotic towns in England

Ahead of St George's Day, we meet some Morley residents to discover what makes the West Yorkshire town so patriotic.

00:04 It's an absolutely fantastic day out for all families.

00:07 They do re-enactment battles which is absolutely fantastic.

00:10 The parade actually starts at the town hall and you've got St George on his horse.

00:14 Takes you down and takes you up to the rugby club.

00:16 It's just such a fabulous day.

00:19 I keep saying that but it's a really, really good day out for everybody.

00:21 I've been to the St George's Parade.

00:25 I think it's brilliant that the people of England celebrate St George's Day,

00:29 especially the people of Morley.

00:31 I think Morley more so, I've noticed that Morley do go the extra mile

00:38 to celebrate St George's Day.

00:40 So it's a real buzz, yeah, and there's a great turnout for it

00:43 and people are very patriotic, I think.

00:46 It's been going years and years now in Morley.

00:48 I mean, it's fair to say I think it's the most patriotic town in England.

00:52 And considering what goes on for St Patrick's Day and things like that nationwide,

00:57 I think this particular town does the St George's Day celebrations justice like nowhere else.

01:05 It's a real buzzing atmosphere.

01:08 It makes you proud to be English.

01:10 And loads and loads of people come from all over to take part in it.

01:14 Just why it doesn't reverberate right through country, I'm not quite sure,

01:19 but if you've never been and sampled it before,

01:22 come to Morley on St George's Day Parade.

01:24 You've never seen it like it.

01:25 There is stalls on the Saturday in Morley, so again, another busy day.

01:28 There's usually some fair rides and a big market, but then Sunday is the parade.

01:34 So Sunday is the main day if anyone wants to come for the re-enactment.

01:37 And the cars, there's usually a big parade of cars.

01:40 There's the brownies, scouts, rainbows, all sorts of other associations that come.

01:46 They do an awful lot, obviously, for Poppy Day as well.

01:48 I think it's just such a patriotic town.

01:50 It's a small town, but very patriotic.

01:53 We've got a lovely town hall and a great selection of shops.

01:56 And if you like a pint or a nice meal, there's everything going on here.
