Windy but warm weekend, as Storm Kathleen appraching from the southwest bringing unseasonably strong winds – This is the Met Office UK Weather forecast for the morning of 06/04/24. Bringing you today’s weather forecast is Annie Shuttleworth.

00:00 Good morning, it's going to be a windy but quite a warm weekend in fact.

00:05 That's a storm Kathleen is approaching from the southwest to bring some

00:09 unseasonably strong winds. The strongest winds will be affecting parts of Western

00:13 Ireland but we'll also see some very strong winds for western areas of the UK.

00:16 It's dragging up this exceptionally mild air from the near continent as well.

00:20 So there's a very mild start out there, temperatures already about 14 degrees

00:24 across the south and it should stay largely dry across eastern areas for the

00:28 rest of the day but the winds are going to start to pick up and there is a wind

00:31 warning in force for Northern Ireland, western areas of England, Wales and

00:34 southwestern Scotland. Here we could see gusts up to 70 miles per hour, that's

00:39 enough to bring a travel disruption so make sure you check before you travel

00:43 later on today if you are moving around in those areas. Across the east though

00:47 where we do see the best of the sunshine it's going to be a very warm day.

00:51 You can see highs of 22 degrees which would be the warmest day since October

00:56 if it is reached but it's also going to be very warm particularly across the

00:58 Moray Coast for example and just eastern sheltered coasts in general. So quite a

01:03 mixed picture from east to west with the warmest and driest and brightest weather

01:07 in the east through the rest of this weekend. Western areas will see some

01:10 showery rain through this evening that's going to push eastwards through the night

01:13 and to bring outbreaks of heavy rain for some areas but by the morning most areas

01:18 will once again be fairly dry. You can see Storm Kathleen here, the wind's

01:22 swirling around it by Sunday morning it's sat up to the northwest of the UK

01:27 and the strongest winds will likely be affecting western areas of Scotland by

01:31 Sunday. So the winds will get that much lighter further south but we're into

01:34 slightly fresher air so temperatures will be a little lower than that we will

01:38 have seen on Saturday morning or this morning. However through the rest of the

01:42 day we will continue to see plenty of sunshine for central and eastern areas

01:46 of England in particular. Further west and north though you're much more likely

01:49 to get caught out in a shower on Sunday. There'll also be quite a lot more cloud

01:53 around as well between the showers and as I said the temperatures will be a

01:57 little bit lower as the air is that much fresher but these temperatures are still

02:01 higher than average for this time of year so it's not too bad at all. However

02:05 across the far north the winds will remain a very strong through the day and

02:08 there could be continued risk of coastal impacts in these areas. Now low pressure

02:13 and unsettled weather will continue to affect northern areas into the start of

02:17 next week however there are signs that more settled weather could develop in
