Good afternoon, welcome to your latest weather update from the Met Office.
00:05
Storm Kathleen continues to bring some very strong winds as we go through this afternoon,
00:09
particularly across western parts. It's out towards the west of the UK at the moment,
00:12
slowly pushing its way northwards as we go through the rest of the weekend. It does stay
00:16
close by though, so plenty of showers around, but as it moves away, another area of low
00:20
pressure replaces it out from the southwest of the UK, bringing further wet weather into
00:25
the new week.
00:26
As I mentioned, there will be some very strong winds associated with Storm Kathleen, with
00:30
yellow warnings in force. Those strongest winds are along Irish Sea coast, so for Northern
00:34
Ireland and parts of Western Scotland, we could see gusts of 60-70mph through this afternoon.
00:39
There's likely to cause some travel disruption, particularly for roads in the north, so do
00:43
check your journeys before you travel.
00:46
On to the weather through this afternoon though, and it should be a dry day for most of us.
00:49
There will be some patchy rain across much of England and Wales, and some heavy showers
00:53
across Northern Ireland and parts of Western Scotland, but there will be some sunshine
00:56
mixed in between those showers as well. A breezy day quite widely across the UK, and
01:01
those strongest winds across western areas, but perhaps a little bit lighter across the
01:05
very far southeast.
01:07
With those southerly winds though, it will be bringing in some very warm air. Temperatures
01:11
across the southeast of England, perhaps 21 or 22 degrees, so this making it the warmest
01:16
day of the year so far. Even in the west of the UK, temperatures well above average for
01:20
the time of year, but with those stronger winds further west, that will definitely take
01:24
the edge off those temperatures.
01:27
So through Saturday evening, still remaining windy quite widely, but out towards the southwest
01:32
we see a band of showers pushing its way north and eastwards. This turning particularly heavy
01:36
across Wales and southwest England, we could see some hail and thunder, so perhaps some
01:40
localised flooding. Further showers continue to spread north and eastwards into the early
01:44
hours of Sunday morning, but generally turning a little bit drier as we go towards the start
01:48
of Sunday.
01:49
Still remaining very windy overnight, and that helping to keep temperatures up in perhaps
01:54
the high single figures for most, but even the low double figures across the south of
01:58
the UK.
01:59
So, a briefly drier start for many of us on Sunday morning, but that doesn't last long
02:04
as further showers push their way in from the west, turning particularly heavy across
02:08
western areas, and again we could see some hail and thunder mixed in.
02:11
Southeastern parts of England probably holding on to the best of the sunshine through Sunday
02:15
afternoon, but anywhere could almost see a shower as we go through the afternoon. Still
02:19
remaining very windy, particularly north-western parts of Scotland could see those gusts again
02:23
of 60-70mph, so perhaps some travel disruption through the afternoon.
02:29
It'll be another mild day on Sunday, not quite as mild as Saturday, but still highs of 16
02:33
or 17 degrees across eastern areas, generally a little bit closer to average further north,
02:37
around 10 or 12 degrees across parts of Scotland.
02:42
Through Sunday evening, those showers continue to push in from the west, slowly pushing their
02:46
way eastwards overnight Sunday and into the start of Monday, turning it a little bit drier
02:51
for much of England and Wales, however still remaining quite showery across western parts
02:55
of Scotland.
02:56
But as all eyes out towards the south-west, that next area of low pressure moves in, so
03:00
bringing some further unsettled weather into the start of the new working week.
03:04
There are some hints though that we might see something a briefly more settled towards
03:07
the second half of next week, but you can find out more about that by subscribing to
03:10
our YouTube channel so you never miss a weather update.
