The economy is on the upside when there are enough jobs created or vacancies filled out.
00:05
And the latest numbers are looking good based on the latest jobs report from the
00:10
Philippine Statistics Authority as threshed out by our Clazel Pardilia in this report.
00:15
Clarence has been searching for a job for almost half a year but after a long wait.
00:25
I have found a job now. I am working as an administrative assistant in a news company.
00:32
I also want to financially support my mother because we are only two in our lives.
00:37
Clarence is one of the Filipinos who no longer counts for and among the unemployed in the country
00:43
this year. According to the Philippine Statistics Authority, the number of unemployed which was 2.38
00:51
million in January 2023 slid to 2.15 million in the same period in 2024. This year the number of
01:00
workers in the industry of construction, transportation, administrative, fishing,
01:06
and other livelihoods such as repair work have increased. The number of employees who have
01:12
obtained regular income also rose. Finance Secretary Ralph Recto allowed the improvement
01:18
in the quality of jobs available in the Philippines. This as more Filipinos become
01:24
engaged in formal and stable work. The improvement in the quality of jobs is also a reflection
01:31
of the drop in the underemployment in the country. The Department of Finance reaffirms its commitment
01:38
in fostering an environment that is conducive to employment generating activities. President
01:45
Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. aims to further promote a favorable business environment in the Philippines.
01:53
According to the National Economic and Development Authority, Secretary Arsenio Balisacan,
02:00
this will attract local and foreign investments that will certainly result in more and better
02:07
quality jobs in our country. Efforts will be made to enhance collaboration between industry,
02:14
the academe, and the public in order to tackle skill mismatches and disparities in employment
02:20
related skills. Additionally, special attention will be given to creating livelihood opportunities
02:27
for vulnerable sectors including women, the elderly, and persons with disabilities. In total,
02:34
around 45.94 million Filipinos are employed or engaged in business. Although this is lower than
02:42
47.80 million during the last quarter of 2023, known as a holiday season, the PSA does not
02:50
express concern about this.
