Education Ministry to focus on preschool expansion this month, says minister

The Education Ministry has made it compulsory for several institutions under its purview to provide space to set up preschool classes for children as young as five, says Minister Fadhlina Sidek.  She told the media this after the opening ceremony of Permata youth entrepreneurship carnival in Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday (March 6). 00:22 We are moving a task force of six towards education reform.

00:30 One of the task forces is closely related to the pre-school.

00:55 We have several institutions, including several ministries, that we are supporting.

00:59 But at the level of the Malaysian Education Ministry, our goal is not only to strengthen the curriculum,

01:05 but also to make as much space as possible in all KPM institutions for pre-school.

01:12 We know that KPM pre-school is free and we want Malaysians to choose KPM pre-school.

01:20 The second is in terms of the quality of our teachers.

01:24 All of them are graduates.

01:26 This is what we must share with the people.

01:28 The third is to make it a choice for parents, especially B40 and the people.

01:33 Because the quality of pre-school is to deal with early childhood abuse, malnutrition, and early intervention.

01:49 We have already implemented it.

01:50 This march will be a pre-school expansion.

01:53 It will be more intensive because we require all KPM institutions, such as IPG, to have pre-schools.

02:04 All 27 IPGs must have pre-schools.

02:07 All vocational colleges must have pre-schools.

02:09 All secondary schools with space must have pre-schools.

02:12 The expansion will be more intensive based on the needs and efforts of us to ensure our commitment to pre-schools.

02:24 Yes, we have been in pre-schools for five and six years.

02:27 So, this expansion will be in terms of space, programs, and efforts to increase the choice of KPM pre-schools.
