00:00
But our top story tonight takes us to the Midwest and the Northeast,
00:03
where we've been tracking the heavy rainfall.
00:06
We've even seen some pea sized hail in both Illinois and Maryland.
00:11
So we know those thunderstorms have packed a bit of a powerful punch.
00:16
Also, some gusty winds with them.
00:18
Well, as we get set to see this storm system work its way off
00:22
through the Northeast, heading into the rest of the work week,
00:27
we will eventually find some colder air behind it getting into the weekend.
00:31
So a lot going on and we're breaking it down for you
00:33
with some of the wet weather that's in place.
00:36
You can see the storm system still producing some of the rain
00:40
and some of the mountain snow showers to higher elevations.
00:43
That's where we're picking up on at least a little bit of that snow.
00:46
But there are some showers and thunderstorms off towards the southwest,
00:50
and that's making a bit of an influence to check out some of the hail
00:53
reports coming in.
00:54
We've had that across the Ohio Valley.
00:56
You can see most of this is pretty small hail, less than an inch in diameter,
01:00
mostly because we don't have the true convective nature of thunderstorms.
01:04
It's largely just because of how cold these thunderstorms have the air around
01:08
them that we are getting at least a little bit of that precipitation
01:12
to come down as ice around these thunderstorms.
01:14
So a lot of them, again, half inch to quarter inch.
01:16
Not anything that will do damage, but something that might catch you by surprise
01:20
if you weren't prepared for some of the stormy weather for some reason
01:23
or another as we've gone through this evening.
01:26
Again, speaking of those thunderstorms, they continue to slide their way
01:28
off towards the southeast.
01:29
Pine Bluff watching out for that thunderstorm that's cut its way by
01:33
with the threat for not only some hail, but also damaging wind threats.
01:37
That's one of the things that we've been keeping a close tab on.
01:40
Meanwhile, off towards the northeast, it's just all about a more persistent rain.
01:44
You might hear a few rumbles of thunder, but it's really a wet time.
01:47
And then you have to go north of that to get in on that snow potential.
01:51
So we do have some of that snow coming down, but not in a place like Pittsburgh.
01:55
Pittsburgh tonight, it is all about the rain.
01:58
The low clouds sticking with us this week, courtesy of EarthKAM showing
02:01
we're in the upper 40s.
02:04
So when do we cool back down?
02:06
That's all going to be behind this storm system.
02:08
The storm system continues tonight to produce the wet weather,
02:11
snow in the highest elevations there of New England.
02:13
There is a back and forth mix for some spots.
02:16
Not too concerned about icy setups, but it could be a little bit slick
02:19
in a few locations. 35 below in Boston.
02:22
We do have those low clouds, some areas of fog possible around Buffalo.
02:25
As this storm system moves out, notice there's some snow still holding on,
02:30
especially for Friday morning throughout parts of the northeast,
02:33
including northern New England, Burlington.
02:35
You're going to pick up a coating to an inch of snow.
02:37
Boston, it's all rain for you as temperatures in the mid 40s.
02:41
Here's a storm system again, trekking its way on out as it moves off
02:44
towards the northeast Friday morning, waking up to some snow for the morning
02:48
commute, wet in places like Worcester for the morning commute.
02:51
New York City dealing with the rain.
02:53
All of this continues to sweep its way slowly off towards the east.
02:56
The afternoon and evening drive largely drier for most, not everywhere,
03:00
because you can see it's still hugging the coastline pretty closely
03:03
behind the storm system, though the cold air, it moves back in.
03:07
So if you want a taste of winter for the weekend, you're going to get it.
03:11
If you want to go skiing, snowboarding, maybe do a little snowmobiling.
03:15
Burlington 18 for the high.
03:17
You will want to wear those layers.
03:18
Frostbite is possible when you talk about these kinds of conditions
03:21
that cold air modifies to a chilly air mass as we get into Sunday,
03:26
which is what we expect for February.
03:28
We're near average for New York City historical average in the mid 40s
03:32
this time of year, so we're right about on target.
03:35
We will warm up, though, into next week.
03:38
And some of those numbers will be taken off to the 50s and 60s.
