Federal and Johor officials will meet next week to discuss policies and issues that need to be ironed out to expedite the establishment of the Malaysia-Singapore special economic zone (SEZ), says Communication Minister Fahmi Fadzil.

He added that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will chair the Feb 28 meeting.

00:07 This has been stressed by the Ministers that there is a need for a comprehensive solution.
00:15 Therefore, a special meeting between the Presidential Government and the State Government
00:21 will be held on 28 February to investigate a number of issues related to the Presidential Government,
00:29 including the Ministry of Transport, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Economy,
00:37 Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Finance and Petra.
00:45 This is an effort to fast-track the discussion on the special economic zone
00:53 and hopefully, this will speed up the development of the zone."

01:08 But you mentioned that there are some basic needs that need to be prioritised.

01:15 "It is still early because the meeting needs to be held
01:19 and there needs to be a consensus on the issues that need to be addressed at the Presidential and State levels.
01:28 This is one of the reasons why the highest-level meeting will be held
01:34 between the Presidential and State governments in Johor on 28 February.
01:40 As a result, there will be some decisions to be made to facilitate the development of the special economic zone.
