EU Commission Plans $538 Million Fine on Apple Over Music Streaming Restrictions
  • 2 months ago
The European Commission is set to fine Apple nearly $538 million over restrictions on access to music streaming services on its platforms. This stems from a complaint filed by Spotify in 2019 that claimed Apple blocked music streamers from informing users about cheaper subscriptions outside the App Store. Spotify argued Apple's 30% app fee and control of the App Store gave its own Apple Music service an unfair advantage. The Commission found Apple's actions violated EU competition rules aimed at enforcing fair competition.
