00:00 The process of getting delayed wages of companies in Saudi Arabia,

00:06 which closed in 2016 according to the Migrant Workers Department,

00:10 will be simplified.

00:11 On the request of OFWs or their families,

00:16 Of the more than 10,000 backpayers who closed Saudi companies in 2016,

00:25 only more than 1,000 were given.

00:28 As of today, 1,204 cheques have been processed and 1,100 have been credited.

00:35 That covers around P57,760,992 Saudi Riyals.

00:42 Rodolfo Bigayan is one of the drivers.

00:45 He is an assistant engineer who was not paid and had no backpay

00:49 when his company closed in 2016.

00:52 In the Philippines, he continued the fierce battle in Saudi.

00:56 His wife, Cherry, continued Rodolfo's claim.

01:00 In 2020, he died of heart failure.

01:05 Only a few widows were able to get their cheques.

01:10 They are also having a hard time because their problem is that the cheque is not in their name.

01:16 The widows we are asking for are Extra Judicial, SPA, FIDAVIT.

01:23 DMW is planning to allow widows to cash their cheques in a more efficient way.

01:30 We were able to forge a memorandum of understanding or agreement to fast track and streamline

01:39 the usual judicial process of depositing and then cashing a cheque when the payee has already died.

01:48 The bank will not be strict on minor discrepancies in the names of IDs and cheques.

01:55 In the case of the Seasonal Worker Program of the Philippines and Korea,

02:00 DMW was alarmed with five cases of physical abuse, five medical emergency cases,

02:07 and four deaths among our workers there.

02:10 It is hard to monitor the condition of OFWs in this program

02:15 because Korea is directly collecting agricultural workers from the LGUs here.

02:21 We issued last January 11 a moratorium to halt for a temporary period of time

02:29 the deployment of seasonal workers to Korea,

02:33 at least until such period of time that the proper guidelines or issuances shall have been issued.

02:40 3,353 people came to Korea from different provinces of the Philippines to be farm assistants there.

02:49 Many have returned, but those still there are being treated by our consulates for their health.
