Sir Keir Starmer says Labour's double by-election victories in Wellingborough and Kingswood proves voters are "crying out for change across the country". Labour overturned majorities of 11,220 and 18,540, securing its second largest swing from the Conservatives ever. But the Labour leader adds that there is no room for complacency, adding, "there's more work to be done and a long, long way to go". Report by Brooksl. 00:00 We're very pleased with the by-election results from last night. I think it's
00:04 very clear that people are crying out for change across the country. They think
00:10 that the Tories have failed, they can see that most things are broken. They look at
00:14 the Labour Party and see a changed party and last night people who hadn't voted
00:19 Labour before went out and voted Labour. So I'm very pleased with both of those
00:24 results but there is more work to do, there's a long way to go and as every
00:29 football fan knows you don't win the league by a good result in February. So
00:34 we've got to fight, like we're five points behind in the polls, got to earn every
00:39 vote as we go forward. What I take from these by-elections is that repeatedly
00:44 now voters are being clear with the government that they want change. We've
00:50 seen not just these two by-elections but previous by-elections the same basic
00:54 message coming from the electorate. We're fed up, nothing's working, we want change
00:59 after 14 years the Tories can't provide that change because they failed. They
01:04 look therefore to the Labour Party, they see a changed Labour Party that has got
01:10 an answer to their issues, the cost of living crisis, the NHS, the broken public
01:14 services and they're prepared to put their vote behind the Labour Party. So
01:19 that vindicates the hard work we've done in the last four years to change the
01:23 Labour Party, now unrecognisable from the party that lost in 2019 but we've got to
01:28 fight for every vote, we've got to make sure that we understand there's more
01:32 work to be done, a long long way to go.
