Kenya, Poland sign MOU on agriculture cooperation and tax solidarity program

President William Ruto on Monday said Kenya and Poland are keen on strengthening their partnership in trade and economic affairs, agriculture and food security, and environment and climate action.

00:04 and aspirations guiding our present and future relationship. We are united in our quest

00:12 to enhance collaboration in trade and economic affairs, agriculture and food security,

00:18 environment and climate action, as well as our individual and collective contribution

00:24 to multilateralism. The two MOUs, Mr. President, we have signed here bears testimony to our

00:33 commitment to this collaboration. We've had extensive discussions on the imperative to

00:41 enhance trade and investment between the two countries. Seizing the presence of a high-powered

00:47 business delegation accompanying you, Mr. President, I invite them to invest in the

00:53 numerous opportunities that Kenya has to offer. I also encourage them to leverage Kenya's strategic

01:00 geographical advantage with Nairobi serving as the hub and gateway for their regional and

01:08 continental investments as a technology powerhouse Kenya offers unrivaled opportunities.

01:18 President Duda and I have just witnessed the signing of two frameworks for cooperation

01:23 further solidifying our already existing friendly relations. The MOU on agricultural cooperation

01:35 and MOU on tax solidarity program. Our country serves as the gateway to the East African

01:42 community market and boasts the largest seaport in the region. Consequently, I invite Poland to

01:50 consider Mombasa and Lamu ports as possible logistical hubs for exporting products, including

01:57 grains, to the region and beyond. I urge President Duda to partner with us through public, private

02:06 and government-to-government partnerships to explore the vast market in the agricultural sector,

02:11 particularly in post-harvest value addition aiming to conclusively address food security.

02:20 On labour mobility, we discussed the possibility of developing a labour mobility framework to

02:29 expand job opportunities available for our highly skilled young labour force while narrowing

02:36 labour deficit in Poland. This is an area that a win-win outcome is a reality.

02:46 Apart from that, we also discussed modern tax policy,

02:49 closing gaps in the public finance sector, in the tax sector. That is why the memorandum was signed

02:57 on cooperation on tax solidarity. And we also discussed, ladies and gentlemen,

03:05 a modern finance sector, a banking sector, the so-called FinTech. I shared our experiences in

03:12 Poland in the sector of e-banking, which is well developed in our country. It is one of the top

03:17 levels in Europe, absolutely. So I shared all our achievements and experiences that we're able to

03:26 share on this one. We also discussed, ladies and gentlemen, the development of medical,

03:33 of the health sector here in Kenya, where Poland right now has a cooperation in this regard. I

03:39 spoke about our experiences in terms of the construction of the Polish healthcare system.

03:45 I spoke about the combination. On the one hand, we have got state-owned health service,

03:50 on the other hand, private health service sector. And I also said how this is developing and how

03:59 general access to health services is being given to the population in Poland. These topics here

04:06 today are an element of contemporary activities, day-to-day activities, which we're implementing

04:13 also in terms of development in Kenya. And these were the topics of our discussion today as well.
