Let's go. I'm like, "Hey, hey, hey."
00:03
- 'Cause girls is playin' - Hey!
00:06
No, you don't understand. I play that song when I need to feel good about myself.
00:10
- Literally anything. - I love that.
00:12
Like, I'm doing my glam, my glam being me.
00:15
- Talk to me. - I love that.
00:16
Talk to me about how it feels to be nominated, not just for one, for two Grammys, your first time around.
00:21
My first time being nominated, two Grammys.
00:24
You know, I love... I don't want to ever be locked in a box.
00:28
And my versatility is something that I love when people admire and appreciate.
00:34
So to be nominated for, like, best pop and best rap with those two categories,
00:39
the versatility is there and it's getting appreciated.
00:44
I think that's so cool because we're hearing your rap and then your melodic sensibilities.
00:50
So I want to hear when you're writing, kind of, how you reconcile what's going to flow out
00:56
and what makes sense for what song or what story you're going to tell.
00:59
When I go in the studio, I don't think about what I'm about to do when I get in there.
01:04
I go through a lot. I'm still a human being and I feel like the best work is when you put
01:10
your heart and your soul and what you go through in it.
01:13
Even just, like, a painter, for example, or a producer.
01:16
I feel like a producer or painters or anyone that is an artist is able to just put whatever they're going through,
01:22
whether it's sadness and tribulations, whether it's happy moments, sad moments, sexy moments, into the music.
01:28
And talk to me about your collaboration with David Guetta and Anne-Marie,
01:32
because I feel like that's like the Avengers of music right now.
01:36
Just three individually cool artists that bring their own flavor.
01:40
What was the recording process like? How did you get involved? Tell me everything.
01:44
So David Guetta is incredible. He's actually one of the first EDM DJs to actually bring hip-hop and EDM together.
01:51
So I think that's iconic. Shout out Black History Month, yes. So we got to shout that out.
01:55
And David in the studio is a mastermind. You get in the studio with him, he knows his stuff.
02:05
Shout out A-Ton. He introduced me to David. So yeah, David Guetta.
02:09
We did a video with Anne-Marie. She's so sweet. Yeah, one of my favorite videos still to this day.
02:14
So I want to talk about you being here your first time.
02:18
It feels like you're kind of part of this next gen of like real music staples.
02:22
You know what I mean? You're making an impact on the scene.
02:25
Who are your mentors in the industry, if any? Because it feels like...
02:28
And then also, is there anyone you're watching out for? Like, "Hey, I see you and I want to be there for you."
02:33
You know what I mean? God is my biggest mentor. I always put him first.
02:37
I feel like spirituality is everything. Whether if you got Crystal's stage, I spoke about this the other day.
02:42
It's very important to tap into that because it can get crazy. You got to remind yourself that you are still human.
02:49
I want to be there for all the young women. I saw somebody tell me...
02:54
Someone... I saw yesterday or today they posted, "Koi has to realize, like, regardless of how she feels,
03:00
regardless if you don't want to be a role model or not, you're still a role model."
03:05
So I feel like my job is to just influence the young women out there and really just take this music to a whole nother level
03:11
and stand and be a proud, beautiful black woman, queen, here for the rest of the world to show them.
03:19
Thank you for doing that. Thank you for being you.
03:23
Thank you. Have the best time in there.
