Children's literacy charity and Apothecary to the Magical, Grim and Co in Rotherham,  has had a move across town into an old church. We ask founder, Dr Deborah Bullivant MBE, to tell us about what happens there.

00:00 I'm Deborah Bullivant and I'm the founding chief executive of Grim and Co.

00:04 and you are currently in Grim and Co.'s Emporium of Stories

00:08 right in the heart of Rotherham

00:10 and we're all about stories in every way.

00:13 We are a charity, we work with children and young people right across Yorkshire

00:17 so we're here for Yorkshire, we're based in Rotherham.

00:20 When you come to the Emporium of Stories

00:23 you come to this centenary square of the town, it's beautiful

00:27 lots of gorgeous lighting and you come through our gates

00:30 into our building, into the foyer and then into our building

00:34 and there you've got the Apothecary to the Magical

00:36 where you can buy your things.

00:38 If you're a magical being you can come and get anything you need from there

00:41 from extract of genius to pinch of happiness

00:44 we also sell disappointment for those that are on the other edge of that.

00:48 So we've got that, we've got a beautiful bookshop

00:52 independent bookshop area where there's books, there's jigsaws

00:55 there's all sorts around reading and stories because we're about stories.

00:59 But then you can go into the Feast Array.

01:01 The Feast Array is all about story themed food

01:04 so that's where food and stories go together

01:07 so we blend the two very closely together.

01:10 So there you can buy your cup of coffee or a cake

01:13 we're selling the most amazing coffee, we're selling Dartwoods coffee

01:16 so locally sourced wherever possible

01:18 and you can come in and enjoy yourself

01:20 do a story themed activity at your table

01:22 for all ages, couples, families, everyone

01:26 but then all of this supports a charity

01:29 how often can you do that?

01:30 This is a unique destination based on stories

01:33 very beautiful, secret doors everywhere

01:35 and behind those secret doors that's where the real magic takes place

01:38 that's where the charity works with children

01:41 and does the magic of words

01:42 so that's where we create stories, reading, books

01:46 but much more than that

01:47 the children do a lot of writing, exciting writing

01:50 so they'll have an illustrator working with them

01:53 and they create a book

01:54 and they become the author of that book by the time they leave

01:56 we've got lots of holiday clubs, after school workshops

01:59 we do soap operas, galas, all sorts of performances

02:04 they create published outcomes from it

02:06 it's all very, very exciting.
