Google Prepares for Job Cuts in 2024 to Invest in Ambitious AI Objectives
  • 3 months ago
Google CEO Sundar Pichai told employees in a memo that more job cuts are coming in 2024 to invest in "ambitious goals" like artificial intelligence. While the cuts won't be as large as last year's 12,000 job reductions, Pichai said "some teams will continue to make resource allocation decisions," which could include layoffs. Pichai said Google needs to "create the capacity" for investments in AI and other priorities by "making tough choices," which often means eliminating roles. Google is gearing up to share its AI goals and objectives for 2024 this week after launching its most powerful AI model yet, Gemini, last month.
