Hello and welcome. These are the top headlines making the news today from our newsrooms
00:04
across the North West. A farmer placed a mauled sheep at a Burnley beauty spot as
00:08
a warning to dog walkers. The sheep was placed at the entrance to the reservoir
00:12
at Hurst Wood on Sunday with a handwritten placard tied to the gate
00:16
saying 'Sheep 24/7 365 Dogs on Leeds'. The bloodied animal appeared to have his
00:23
throat ripped out. Councillors and residents have called for an urgent
00:28
rethink over major roadworks in suburban Preston amid reports of multiple
00:32
accidents in a matter of days. Gas mains works have closed the northbound side of
00:36
Tag Lane at the junction with Tanterton Hall Road in Ingle but the route remains
00:40
open to vehicles travelling the opposite way. The crossroads where the two roads
00:44
meet have now become a scene of chaos according to locals because drivers are
00:48
making incorrect assumptions about the directions from which traffic will be
00:51
emerging. A woman's body was discovered in the estuary in Lytham on Tuesday
00:56
morning. Police received a call at 6.15am from a member of the public who
01:01
reported a woman in the water near Dock Road. The emergency services responded
01:05
with fire crews and police searching the area with torches before dawn. A woman's
01:09
body was sadly recovered a short time later said police. Her death is not
01:13
thought to be suspicious. Three people have been arrested in pre-dawn Wigan
01:18
raids during a new police crackdown on County Lines drugs crimes using children
01:22
as dealers. Officers from Greater Manchester's Police Wigan Complex
01:25
Safeguarding Team, supported by Wigan Challenger Team, local neighbourhood
01:29
officers and a tactical aid unit executed warrants at three addresses in
01:33
Asphalt, Inns and Wigan as part of an ongoing probe into a county drugs line
01:37
operating in the area. An 18 year old woman, a 17 year old boy and a 21 year old
01:42
man were all arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to sell the Class B drug of
01:45
cannabis and modern slavery. And the case of a mystery body found in Morecambe Bay
01:51
is now featured on a national missing persons website. Just after 2 p.m. on
01:56
April 30th 2023, Furness Coast Guard contacted Cumbria Police to report that
02:01
a body of a man had washed up south of Rampside in Barrow-in-Furness. Efforts to
02:05
identify the man have so far not been successful. Cumbria Police have now
02:09
submitted details of the mystery body to the UK missing persons unit in the hope
02:14
of identifying him. In the weather Wednesday will bring a few showers but
02:18
generally it'll be a dry day with some sunny spells. Similar on Thursday and not
02:22
feeling quite so cold with a maximum temperature of 7 degrees. That's it for
02:26
now, thanks for watching, see you tomorrow.
