It's a pleasure to be here today to introduce Julian's
00:03
first exhibition in the gallery here.
00:07
Do you mind if I call you Jules?
00:08
Jules?
00:09
- No, it's easy.
00:10
(laughing)
00:11
- I've known Jules for quite a number of years now
00:13
through the gallery.
00:14
Jules has been very active in the local art scene.
00:17
She's worked with us for a while.
00:19
She's done a lot of volunteer work with us,
00:22
with mental health exhibitions, with Art in the Vale.
00:25
She ran that for quite a few years at Pannonbar.
00:28
And so she's been very active in our local area.
00:33
She's very generous with her time and her fun
00:37
and we always have a few laughs.
00:39
And so the people who know Jules know that she's not one
00:42
for hiding her light under a bushel.
00:44
(laughing)
00:47
But in this instance, she has.
00:49
She has made this amazing exhibition of her work
00:53
that she's been producing over the last couple of years.
00:56
And I think they're absolutely beautiful.
00:59
Jules has really shown a great skill in her use
01:02
of the watercolour and her mediums.
01:04
And what I really like about it is there's a real light
01:08
touch to the works.
01:10
You can't see where she's worked and worked and worked.
01:12
It's almost as if they've just emerged
01:15
with her slight hand.
01:17
And they've got some beautiful textures.
01:19
If you look closely at the works, beautiful textures,
01:22
the shapes that almost serendipitously come out of the page
01:26
where she's assisted the medium,
01:29
but it's also had a hand in how the artwork
01:32
has been created.
01:33
So I also really enjoy the colourings that she's used
01:37
because it's not easy to manipulate watercolours
01:41
and get really nice colours that can portray
01:46
the natural landscape like Jules has done.
01:48
So often people use colours that are too garish
01:51
or bright or too basic.
01:53
And I really enjoy the way Jules has manipulated
01:56
her medium.
01:58
So congratulations Jules.
02:00
It's great to finally have an exhibition here for you.
02:03
And I hope you sell them all.
02:05
So they're on sale.
02:06
(audience laughing)
02:09
Thanks Jules.
02:12
- Thank you.
