Archeologists Unearth the Remain of 3 Ancient Incan Mummies in Residential Area in Peru

Lima, Peru’s capital, has become a hotbed of archeological discoveries in recent years. Now, diggers have unearthed 3 ancient Incan burial bundles, ones buried near residential areas of the South American city.

00:14 They say the bundles include two adults and likely one child, discovered in the Incan

00:19 administrative center called Tamboinga.

00:22 Excavations of the site began some three months ago, and archaeologists leading the dig believe

00:26 the recently found remains were buried there 500 years ago.

00:30 Their goal is to reconstruct the Incan way of life through the discovery of remains and

00:34 relics, hoping to better understand the long-gone culture.

00:37 One of the burial bundles they found was a woman between the ages of 18 and 23.

00:42 Based on the remains, the archaeologists say she was likely of an elite class, though they

00:45 did not provide any reason as to why they came to that conclusion.

00:49 This is just the latest in a growing list of finds in Lima this year alone.

00:53 Back in September, diggers found a burial chamber with another mummy.

00:56 That one is believed to have been buried in 1000 AD, or more than 1000 years ago.
