Negotiators at the COP28 summit have produced a new draft of what`s expected to be the core
00:07
document of the talks.
00:08
The first global stock take on climate looks at what`s happened since the 2015 Paris climate
00:14
agreement, how off track it is and what can be done to correct things.
00:18
The CEO of COP28, Annan Amin, claims the stock take will provide a very good basis for moving
00:24
forward.
00:25
We need to be aligned with the 1.5 target, keeping 1.5 within reach.
00:33
That we`ve articulated as a principle objective of this conference.
00:38
To do that, there`s going to have to be substantial progress on reducing emissions and creating
00:45
a trajectory of decarbonization that brings us to alignment with 1.5 by 2030.
00:51
We have seven years to do this.
00:53
So, either we can stay mired in debates about language or we can find practical ways to
00:59
get this done.
01:00
Protesters near the COP28 venue are not optimistic.
01:03
They say what is being done to phase out fossil fuels, a main driver of global warming, is
01:09
not enough.
01:10
People`s frustration levels are really high about this conference.
01:14
In fact, some have lost any hope in this process.
01:18
But we are here because we believe we cannot solve the problem if governments do not act.
01:24
That is our problem.
01:27
It`s not just up to us.
01:29
The governments, those who are in power have to do something.
01:32
So, we are here to push them.
01:34
Activists are pushing for a complete phasing out of fossil fuels.
01:39
It is ambitious, but they say it is the only way to meet our climate warming crisis.
