COP21 Delegates vote to adopt historic deal
  • 8 years ago
Delegates from 195 countries have voted to adopt the deal on climate change. The agreement will attempt to limit the rise in global temperatures to less than two degrees centigrade.

It is the first such deal to commit all countries to cut carbon emissions and comes after two weeks of negotiations. It is partly legally binding and partly voluntary.

The new pact to be known as the Paris Agreement for the first time requires virtually every country in the world to set out its plans to avert climate change every five years.
