Large weekend storm brewing for the East

Major disruptions to travel and outdoor plans are possible this weekend in more than a dozen states as a far-reaching storm strengthens over the eastern half of the United States.

00:00 My friends, if there's one thing you

00:02 need to know for this upcoming weekend,

00:04 it's that a major storm system is

00:06 going to impact millions of you

00:07 across at least the eastern

00:09 third of the United States.

00:10 We've been tracking this storm for days already,

00:13 and again, we're looking all the way out

00:15 to Saturday and Saturday night here.

00:17 As this system, you know,

00:18 I said this is a major storm.

00:20 It is physically huge,

00:21 stretching all the way from the

00:23 UP back down to the Gulf Coast.

00:25 Now on the north side of the storm,

00:27 we're going to be bringing in some

00:29 severe weather, which means yeah,

00:30 winter weather is on the table,

00:32 really stretching all the way back

00:33 from parts of northeastern Missouri

00:35 all the way through Mittenham,

00:36 MI and even back into the Great White North.

00:38 Now further South along the center of the storm.

00:41 That's where we're going to

00:42 get some soaking rainfall,

00:43 and unfortunately,

00:44 Saturday and Saturday night heads up.

00:45 We do have the potential for some spotty,

00:47 severe weather back along the Gulf.

00:49 Now this is good news.

00:50 Bad news.

00:51 It's mostly bad news.

00:52 We don't like severe weather,

00:53 but we desperately need rain

00:55 in this part of the country.

00:56 That said,

00:57 there is such thing as a

00:58 good thing, not just such thing

01:00 as too much of a good thing,

01:01 and some localized flash flooding,

01:03 some downpours,

01:03 some ponding on roadways.

01:04 That's possible Saturday and Saturday

01:06 night from Memphis to Little Rock,

01:07 Shreveport to Jackson,

01:08 MO all the way to Lafayette and Houston.

01:10 As well,

01:11 we could see some hail and gusty

01:13 damaging winds out of this system too.

01:15 Now as we follow our major

01:16 storm system into Sunday,

01:17 it starts to lift back toward the Great Lakes.

01:20 Again,

01:20 this is going to pull more of that cold

01:22 air around the backside of the storm here,

01:24 meaning that winter weather doesn't

01:26 just disappear as nice as that might be.

01:28 Well, don't like winter all that much,

01:30 but again,

01:30 this also pushes rain on the

01:32 South side of the storm.

01:33 Further back along the eastern seaboard,

01:35 and even as you head out into New England,

01:37 we are looking at more in the way of

01:39 rain moving in Sunday into Monday.

01:41 Now it's not all bad news again.

01:43 I mentioned how we need the rainfall

01:45 back around the Gulf fault.

01:46 That's not the only spot.

01:48 Look at future rainfall come in here

01:49 as we get through Friday night,

01:51 Saturday and Sunday as well.

01:53 You can see the heaviest areas of green

01:55 really back along the East Coast,

01:57 so well through the Mississippi River Valley.

01:59 We've been talking about this

02:01 for months at this point.

02:03 Mississippi River Valley has been

02:04 exceedingly dry and we have seen in

02:06 the past few months some record low

02:08 levels along the Mississippi,

02:10 so the idea that we could get some

02:12 more rain back into a very dry area

02:14 is tough in the short term,

02:16 but good news for the River

02:17 Valley in the long run.
