00:00 The much-loved Soho nightclub, GAY Late, will close indefinitely on 10th December amid safety fears.
00:06 The owner, Jeremy Joseph, said he made the decision with great sadness, but reasons for
00:12 the closure include a rise in attacks on customers and staff, as well as an increase in building and
00:17 development works in the area. The venue is one of the relatively few in London to hold a license
00:22 until 4am, but this late closure has come with a price. Joseph explains, as a result of sometimes
00:28 being the only venue open late in the surrounding area, it has led to an increase in crime against
00:33 its staff and customers. Joseph assured customers he had done everything he could to try to keep
00:39 GAY Late going, but it was taking a toll on his mental health. In its replacement, the LGBT
00:46 venue, GAY Bar, will remain open until 1am, and there are plans for
00:58 Heaven's Capacity to increase. Joseph added, "I want to thank all the customers who have supported
01:04 GAY Late, and to all the staff who have made it one of the most successful LGBT venues in the UK."
