00:31 The actor and his wife, Nikki Reed, used to live on a beachside home in Los Angeles and

00:35 moved further north of the big city.

00:37 Somerhalder mentioned that they simply are farm people, but mentioned it is a lot of

00:40 work to maintain.

00:41 In the conversation with E, the Vampire Diaries alum mentioned that there are cows and mini

00:46 donkeys on their estate that protect their collection of goats from coyotes and other

00:50 predators.

00:51 He went on to say, "It's a lot of work.

00:53 It's unbelievable when you see these amazing creature life forms, and how they all live

00:57 on the farm together is really special."

00:59 Now, it's been roughly four years since the actor and Nikki Reed took on a new role, but

01:03 they have been quite busy on their passion projects.

01:06 The former actor mentioned that they produce their own food as of late, and he even details

01:09 how efforts like this can help the earth in his 2020 documentary, Kiss the Ground.

01:13 The documentary also had a follow-up titled Common Ground, which detailed how regenerative

01:17 farming and improving the world's soil can help combat climate change.

01:21 He stated, "I stepped away from acting a little over four years ago to raise my kids, build

01:25 my companies, and get these films launched."

01:27 The films have had the likes of Laura Dern, Jason Momoa, Rosario Dawson, Woody Harrelson,

01:31 and even Donald Glover included.

01:33 Now, the former actor didn't shy away, saying that it can be stressful to start making impactful

01:37 differences toward the earth.

01:38 The star also mentioned he has worked hard with brands like a pet food company titled

01:42 Nuro to spread awareness about healthy soil practices.

01:45 Summerholder has also been involved with projects like the Brothers Bond Bourbon, which he started

01:49 with former on-screen sibling Paul Wesley.

01:52 As far as what's next, Summerholder wants to keep building legacy brands in the future

01:55 and hopefully make as much difference as you can.
