03:44 where Kiev is required to take robust measures to remove the influence of powerful oligarchs

03:56 We know that before the war, Ukraine was really subject to these predatory forces.

04:03 Some of them in - some of the oligarchs connected directly to the Kremlin, many of them Ukrainian

04:10 and who essentially sought political proxies so that they could pursue their business interests

04:17 Now, here I think there`s a lot of disentangling that has to be done, but I think this has

04:23 begun and Ukraine has made genuine progress.

04:26 I was really struck, for example, many months ago when the head of the Supreme Court in

04:32 Ukraine was arrested and found with millions of euros.

04:37 To me, that was an indication of the real seriousness of this Ukrainian government in

04:42 pursuing people.

04:44 Another issue is minority rights.

04:45 Hungary says it`s concerned about the protection for Hungarian language speakers living in

04:50 Ukraine.

04:51 But advisors to President Zelensky say they have nothing to fear.

04:54 However, there may be a problem for Russian speakers in the future.

04:58 In fact, there has been just a law passed which protects minority language and President

05:04 Zelensky signed it.

05:05 But of course, there`s discussions about, you know, language becoming a propaganda tool,

05:11 people demand certain type of culture being taught in schools.

05:15 And so, that`s going to be a polarizing issue for quite some time.

05:20 If the EU report says Kiev has fulfilled its demands, then the 27 EU member states have

05:25 to unanimously agree on whether Ukraine can move to the next level.

05:35 Poland`s president has tapped Mateusz Morawiecki, the current prime minister of the Law and

05:40 Justice Party, to try and form the country`s next government.

05:44 His decision is expected to delay the establishment of a functioning government, because lawmakers

05:49 aren`t likely to give Morawiecki the necessary approval for his cabinet.

05:54 President Andrei Duda made the announcement on Monday following a national election in

05:59 which the right-wing Law and Justice lost its parliamentary majority to three allied

06:04 opposition parties, but emerged as the single biggest vote-getter.

06:09 An ally of the current government, Duda had said the two candidates for prime minister

06:13 were Mateusz Morawiecki and main opposition leader Donald Tusk, a former Polish prime

06:18 minister and top European Union official.

06:22 If Tusk were to be appointed, it could signal a change in Poland`s relationship with Brussels

06:26 after eight years of fighting over issues ranging from migration to LGBTQ+ rights.

06:35 Since the beginning of the Ukraine war, over 100,000 Ukrainians have fled to the Netherlands

06:40 seeking refuge.

06:41 The majority registering at this center have come directly from Ukraine, but around 30

06:46 percent have arrived from other European countries, including Poland.

06:51 "I came to the Netherlands yesterday.

06:59 My friends who were here said that the country is not bad for living.

07:04 I came from Poland, I was there for more than a year, but I didn`t like it there."

07:10 Some centers are finding it difficult to cope with the intake of Ukrainian refugees and

07:18 Over 80,000 are still living in municipal shelters.

07:22 "In the beginning, there were mostly women, then women with children.

07:25 In the last period, we saw more men coming for reunification.

07:30 Our heart goes out to the most vulnerable.

07:33 We are worried if there is still room for the vulnerable.

07:37 The situation is so bad that we can`t cope with it."

07:42 Ukrainian refugees are under the temporary protection directive, which grants them automatic

07:47 rights to work and benefit from social housing and medical care.

07:54 Dozens of protesters rallied outside the Senate in Paris as lawmakers began debating a hugely

08:00 controversial immigration bill.

08:02 The new legislation aims to toughen the country`s immigration laws and accelerate the process

08:06 for deporting foreigners.

08:08 But advocacy groups argue it`s a threat to the rights of asylum seekers and other migrants.

08:13 "This bill aims to deprive people of the state`s aid.

08:17 It`s a whole population that is in danger.

08:20 So, our health, we, the immigrants, our health is the health of the French and the French

08:25 women."

08:26 The bill also aims to give legal status to undocumented individuals working in sectors

08:32 that need workers.

08:33 "The government is hypocritical.

08:37 On one hand, the interior minister says we are going to expel the undocumented.

08:42 On the other hand, the Bersi administration says we are happy to take taxes, VAT, social

08:47 security and social contributions from these undocumented workers who, if they are not

08:51 entitled to stay, have work contracts and paychecks."

08:56 The government believes public opinion is on its side.

08:59 As a recent survey suggests that 87 percent of people are in favor of changing immigration

09:04 rules in the country.

09:10 Workers from some 400 companies across Austria`s metal industry took part in a three-hour strike

09:16 on Monday.

09:18 The action will be repeated daily until Wednesday.

09:22 They are demanding a wage increase of around 11 percent to match inflation.

09:27 "We have to pay the entire taxes from our own pockets for the last 12 months.

09:32 Now we want to get some support for that, but unfortunately nothing is happening.

11:06 Friday`s 6.4 magnitude quake was the deadliest to hit the country since 2015.
