Taster of Inverness

Sarah Rankin said she was 'thrilled' to support so many local food producers at the Taster of Inverness event.

00:00 I'm Jo and I am the Digital Engagement Manager at Visit Inverness Loch Ness.

00:03 Last night we had a dinner with ten amazing creators and we told them the story of the

00:11 local Larder, all of the amazing food and drink experiences that they can have in Inverness

00:16 and Loch Ness.

00:18 So today they are getting to meet all of those producers, suppliers and businesses that sell

00:24 those amazing products.

00:25 I'm Sarah Rankin, MasterChef finalist and Private Chef.

00:29 I am thrilled to be back home in Inverness at the Taster of Inverness event.

00:33 I've been absolutely blown away by the amount of local producers that are here, how many

00:38 of them really want to promote what they have and what amazing produce they have.

00:42 And I think it's really important for us as a community to shout about these businesses.

00:47 It helps to keep tourist pounds here in the Highlands and it's really exciting for a foodie

00:52 person like me to just see what's out there and what ingredients we can use.

00:55 It's been an absolutely great day.

00:57 It is very much based in landscape and place.

01:02 So for example Caroline from Bog Hole Farms, the pigs that they have and the cows that

01:07 they have are all native to this area and that part of it really makes it special, it

01:12 makes it local and I think that's what's really really important.

01:17 We're here today because we're huge supporters of food and food industries in the Highlands

01:23 and so we were asked to be involved.

01:25 We were really delighted.

01:26 There are so many amazing local producers here and we're just really delighted to be

01:30 in such great company.

01:31 I think supporting local producers is incredibly important, especially in these times.

01:36 I think the quality of the produce is great and so it's absolutely right and proper that

01:41 we support it.

01:42 I mean in baking it's quite difficult to do things and we don't have a local producer

01:46 of cocoa or chocolate here locally but we can do our bit.

01:50 We can use good eggs that are produced locally, we can highlight other people's products

01:55 so we might want to make a cake with ale from Black Cow Brewery or Cromartie Bakery or we

02:02 might want to support a jam producer or something so there's lots of ways to support our community

02:07 but also it's just amazing to work together with people, I just think that's incredibly

02:11 important.

02:12 Hi guys so we are Xoco, Xoco means bitter, we are a rich street and we do all the baking,

02:20 we do French patisserie, we do croissants, sourdough, breakfast, also we have brunch

02:26 and you can have a wee wine in the afternoons and I don't know, it's just exciting.

02:33 A lot of local products make community so also you feel more homely and it's nice, the

02:41 environment is very good for the environment.

02:43 I really love baking, not just baking, I love the kitchen stuff also.

02:49 I think for this you need to have a lot of passion because in both early hours, I start

02:55 normally at 2am in the morning so you need to have a good spirit to every morning wake

03:02 up and come to bake everything.
