Merriale fast bowler Jarrod Petherick speaks to The Standard ahead of round five of the 2023-24 Warrnambool and District Cricket Association season.

00:00 Jarrod, we're down here at Merrillville training, getting ready for round five.

00:04 How's the boys feeling? Obviously looking to rebound from a loss last round.

00:08 Yeah, the vibe in the group's pretty good. Pretty disappointing loss on the weekend,

00:12 but I think we'll definitely regroup and make sure we have a pretty good performance this weekend.

00:17 Yeah, it's three and one, so you've had a fairly good start to the season.

00:21 What's worked or what hasn't worked so far?

00:24 Yeah, I guess the vibe around the group's been really good from the start of pre-season.

00:27 We've got a lot of numbers down here, which hasn't really been the case over the last couple of years.

00:31 A few new faces that are sort of freshened up the group.

00:34 And yeah, we've really started really well and hopefully we'll put last week behind us

00:40 and we'll sort of keep that form up that we had for the first seven weeks.

00:42 New faces and one is your older brother who's coaching the group.

00:47 What's it like to have him back in the club?

00:49 Yeah, it's really good. It's just good to have him, I guess, around the group.

00:52 He's got a really good leadership and a good mentality about cricket.

00:56 Him and Joey Kinnar, they know what they're doing.

00:58 So it's been really good to have a couple of blokes that have been able to win four or five

01:01 premierships to come down here and, I guess, sort of teach the group what they've learned over the years.

01:06 So yourself, you're coming back from ACL back this season.

01:09 How's it feel to be back on the ground and building yourself up this season?

01:15 Yeah, it's awesome.

01:16 It was a pretty rough year last year, sort of being down here watching the boys.

01:19 But it's awesome to be back in the group and, I guess, sort of business as usual.

01:25 So this week you played at Northern Raiders back on the turf.

01:29 Any key things here will be the key to getting that win?

01:31 It'll be an interesting one. I haven't actually played the Raiders before myself

01:36 this and last year, but they've got a couple of really good cricketers in their team.

01:40 Kimi Alford is a new coach out there, so it'll be a really tough one, I guess,

01:45 getting him out and sort of getting through his bowling.

01:47 But yeah, I guess everyone's sort of put last week behind us and

01:51 everyone's sort of knuckling down and, I guess, put another 200 plus squad on.
